Brand New Missouri Poll: Obama - McCain within the margin of error!
Among the 800 likely Missouri voters polled last week, 49 percent favored McCain compared to 45 percent for Obama. The remaining 6 percent were undecided, or split between the three minor-party tickets on the ballot.

McCain's recent lead is within the poll's margin of error of 3.5 percentage points for each number. That means McCain could have a stronger advantage, or Obama could have a narrow edge.

1. Turn out and changing the voter demographics through the huge voter registration drives by Obama is
going to determine who wins many of these close states. Keep plugging away.

2. The pollster notes the ground game here:
Republicans say privately that there's little need for McCain to elevate his grass-roots presence and staffing in Missouri, as long as polls continue to show him in the lead.

But given the state of the nation's economy, Ali warned, "I think that's a risky move."

4. Also...
Also keep in mind, Missouri is the premiere bellwether state of the nation. In the last 108 years--a total of 27 elections--Missouri has only voted for the loser twice: in in 1900 and 1956 (both times for Democrats, too).

Also keep in mind that no Democrat has won the White House without Missouri.

A lot of people are writing off Missouri at the stage of the game, for whatever reason. But I think it's one of the most interesting states, and it will be VERY interesting to see who it ultimately ends up going for.
