Its like a Native American running for Governor of Montana - many of my so-called friends, much to my chagrin, would blatantly comment about "drunk indians" and vote for somebody else.

I call people out all the time here.

An entire high school was burned down in a small town near here two nights ago. Four suspects arrested, ages 14, 15, 18, and 19. The 14 and 18 yr-old boys were Native American, the other two white. Whose fault? The mumblings around town are hardcore racial slurs towards the NA boys - their fault, their idea, white boys pulled into the plot...sad.

But I have faith that enough of us have evolved beyond racial stereotypes and biases - we just have to GOTV and vote for the best candidate.

1. yeah well better it actually get reported than ignored.
As it is, white racist suburban semi-educated voters are getting a free ride on their racist choices here. If they are going to vote against their own self interest in order to keep the n* out of the white house, lets at least put that on the table where we can see it for what it is.

3. I've talked to a few people who express reservations about Barack.
My first question is, is it because he's black? Not surprisingly, the defensive answer is, "No, no, I have no problem with blacks. There's just something about him..." I'm beginning to think whoever said Americans aren't ready for an intelligent president may be right. I suppose I should appreciate the fact that white voters who won't vote for him because of his race are at least honest. But I've long thought how truly sad it is to be discriminated against because of something you can't do anything about, such as race and gender (been there!).

Like you said--let's keep the faith!

4. I was dumbfounded the other day when a talking head asked if Obama was aware of this problem.
What a stupid question! Of course he is aware of it! It's one of the things he took into consideration when he was making his decision whether or not to run for POTUS.
