Rachel Maddow seems like she's the only one who has caught onto this serious gaffe today. It's a stunning example of just how little McCain knows about economic regulation.

1. and Keith O mentioned it. But let's face it....
McCain's gaffes are becoming hard to keep up with.

5. Obama may do it tomorrow.
Unless there is a bigger gaffe to point out.

The stock market will plummet again tomorrow anyway, so we'll still be talking about the economy.

2. Its too esoteric to make into a big issue ...
But it should be used as a bullet point when mounting a larger attack against McCain's overall competency in governing.

3. That's true, I suppose that most voters don't know that the President can't fire the SEC chair

It would've been great if McCain had tried to use that line in a debate and Obama corrected him on it, though.

6. Yeah, that would have been sweet. Obama would make a statement then add very cooly...
"By the way, as President you cannot fire the SEC chair ..."

That would OWN so much!!!

4. No way to raise it without implying you want to keep him, and
nobody wants to be perceived as wanting to keep the SEC chair. (Even if they do.)

7. I think it is more effective to lampoon McSame and say fire them ALL including him
