What did you think of the Bush Twins' speech?
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 02:50 AM by UdoKier
I personally was surprised to find them less annoying than I expected. After my initial shock at Jenna's ENORMOUS bone structure in comparison to Barbara's...

SELF-EDIT-

On re-reading my comments, they seem disruptor-ish. I didn't intend them to be, and they were meant sincerely, but they might be interpreted as trying to validate the deceptive messages embodied by the girls' talk.

Suffice to say, I think their talk was a Rovian ploy to make Repugs look LESS like the racist fundie tightasses they ARE.

4. Interesting. Their talk was panned in that thread.

I thought that their acting like regular young girls, giggling and whatnot would appeal to the same kind of dumb sweing voter who voted for Schwarzenegger just because he's the Terminator.

The same kind of people who were swayed by stories about Gore's earth tones - you know, the ones who actually think the race is about personality.

9. Compare them to Cate Edwards
-- for that matter -- compare them with 12-year-old Ilana Wexler at the DNC.

Here is her speech. Compare this young lady with the two Bush daughters who are teice her age:

10. Cate Edwards is actually younger than them
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 05:32 AM by JohnKleeb
and she was great, no gigglyness, just a proud sister, daughter and obviously has the Edwards' speakin genes. Ok I just checked things out, Cate is younger than the Bush twins.

3. It was so BAD. It is rare when I agree with the New York Post,
but this time I do.

JEN & BARB: MORE GAFFES THAN LAUGHS

September 1, 2004 -- The Bush twins made their national television debut last night — with a string of weak one-liners that drew cringes from the crowd and at one point brought a soft rebuke from their grandparents.

The twins, Barbara and Jenna Bush, had the job of introducing President Bush, who in turn introduced First Lady Laura Bush.

For much of their brief time on stage, the twins seemed to amuse themselves more than the crowd.

Some delegates in Madison Square Garden seemed startled when Jenna Bush accused her beloved grandmother Barbara of being too opinionated, hating their clothes and being out of touch with pop culture.

"She thinks, 'Sex and the City' is something married people do, but never talk about," Jenna said.

President George H. W. Bush smiled and wagged his finger at his granddaughter, as if to say "shame."

. . .

The LA Times and New York Times and the Washington Post also thought it was an embarrassing performance.

But the freepers seemed to like the crude performance.

13. Wow, if the NY Post disapproved,
it must have been as bad as I thought it was.

Really, I thought they were shameless...this is family values?

8. LOL! "Jenna looks like dumbya in a wig and make-up"
If I had more time, I could do better captions, but I'm in a hurry... to slam every right winger relentlessly until November 2nd. Gotta churn out as much as possible.

One thing I learned from repuglicans: Attack attack attack!!!

11. Yeah I'd agree with that
Bar is the better looking of the two, and Jenna looks a lot like Daddy.

7. Embarrassing. They made me think of an episode of 7th Heaven.
Incredibly contrived, poorly acted, shallow, with a very cheesy and obvious agenda. Oh and very very un-funny.

They were annoying.

15. I keep reading that cnn panned them. I guess you can just rewrite history
No real mention of how awful their performance was. Now they just made 'jokes'

Bush twins lighten convention with jokes

NEW YORK (AP) -- Jenna and Barbara Bush, the president's 22-year-old twin daughters, joked about their days as "young and irresponsible" party girls and said they were not very political but couldn't sit out their father's final campaign.

"We love our dad too much to stand back and watch from the sidelines," Barbara Bush said.

The nation got a first good look at the twins on a prime-time stage Tuesday night as they introduced President Bush, who in turn introduced wife and mom Laura Bush to the Republican convention -- by satellite -- from a campaign stop in Pennsylvania.

17. BEST. SORORITY. SKIT. EVER.
All it needed was a keg of Bud Light and a few drunken frat boys (well, Dubya was there, at least on video) to completely sell it.

19. Can't someone get the two sets of daughters side by side???
I thought that giggling was way over the top, even sounded fake to me. Laughed out loud with that "sex in the city" comment.....the center got very quiet, then some nervous laughter could be heard. Nope, not impressed with them at all.
