.AP: "Palin tries to defend qualifications in interview" (Good one!)
AP Rips Palin ABC Interview/Bush Doctrine fumbling. Even the title is good: TRIES to defend...

Palin tries to defend qualifications in interview

FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska - John McCain running mate Sarah Palin sought Thursday to defend her qualifications but struggled with foreign policy, unable to describe President Bush's doctrine of pre-emptive strikes against threatening nations and acknowledging she's never met a foreign head of state.

In the interview Thursday, Palin:

_Appeared unsure of the Bush doctrine — essentially that the United States must help spread democracy to stop terrorism and that the nation will act pre-emptively to stop potential foes.

Asked whether she agreed with that, Palin said: "In what respect, Charlie?" Gibson pressed her for an interpretation of it. She said: "His world view." That prompted Gibson to say "no, the Bush doctrine, enunciated September 2002, before the Iraq war" and describe it to her.

"I believe that what President Bush has attempted to do is rid this world of Islamic extremism, terrorists who are hell bent on destroying our nation," Palin said, though added "there have been mistakes made."

Pressed repeatedly on whether the United States could attack terrorist hideouts in Pakistan without the country's permission, she said: "If there is legitimate and enough intelligence that tells us that a strike is imminent against American people, we have every right to defend our country. In fact, the president has the obligation, the duty to defend."

25. Bering Land Bridge...
13,000 plus years ago Sarah could hop on hubby's snowmobile and visit her friends in "Russia" by land. Short trip. But then, Sarah believes in creationism, e.g., did the earth exist 13,000 years ago? Sarah has been on an airplane, I assume that she's aware that the earth is round...not flat.

As an aside, I do think that creationism and evolutionism can coexist. It's just a matter of whom is minding the clock.

3. I was a'feared that
Palin would have been primed and prepped with enough pre-fabricated talking points that should could bluff her way credibly through the interview - with the complicity of a soft interview by Gibson.

That she did so poorly - was so ill prepared to answer a question about the primary geo-political doctrine of the Bush administration - the very premise on which her son is heading off to Iraq - was extraordinary and wonderful.

I believe even with a few more weeks of prep. on the fly she will be unable to hold up against Biden. Hopefully, we can anticipate a crash and burn of epic proportions for Palin in the VP debate.

6. Gibson showed a touch of backbone there
I think he figured the Bush Doctrine was a no-brainer and was a little surprised that she had no idea what it was.

19. Yeah, the Bush doctrine SHOULD have been a no-brainer.
As I mentioned on another thread, it's called the BUSH doctrine for christ's sake. She didn't even have to know what it was, all she had to say was "of course I support the Bush doctrine Charlie" and it would have slid by. What a fuckin moron. What a fuckin scary, psychopathic, rapture-anticipatin cult member freak.

11. This interview...
...was definitely not the confidence-builder she needed to go into the debates. What a shame.

Even though she is a war criminal, I would have loved to watch this interview with Condi and a bottle of wine. She really is intelligent and an expert on foreign policy. I bet it blew her mind.

She doesn't stand a chance. She'd have to go get a Masters in International Relations before she could understand what she DOESN'T know compared to Joey....

EDIT FOR POOR READING COMPREHENSION OF THE POST I REPLIED TO> SORRY....

15. I'm afraid Joe Biden will continually convulse with laughter during the debate.
Like inappropriate funeral laughter. Chuckles the Clown laughter ... a little seltzer down the pants. I know I would. Either that, or he'll get so mad at her stupidity (and the possibility that she'd have to step into the presidency) that he'll blow his stack.

4. I think the AP edited this story-- I could swear there was a rather dry line in there
Edited on Thu Sep-11-08 11:30 PM by chill_wind
commenting on her confidence in her answers-- a line to the effect that the most confident statement that she made in the whole interview was that she felt she was ready and qualified for the VP.

Somewhere between when I read it and made this post-- I don't see that now!

26. Do you mean her "I didn't even blink" comment? I heard it on NPR.
But NPR is so unbalanced to the right, that they didn't mention ANY of these gawd-awful answers of hers.

She is-- maybe not as much as we would all give her, but I've seen several stories the last few days that tell me the honeymoon is starting to fade...

22. sigh
I didn't see the interview, only read assessments

of course she's completely unqualified and ignorant, but she's cunning

however-----why am i seeing some news reports saying more than half the viewers hold a favorable view of her performance?

very discouraging

24. She was exposed in that interview
as a true know-nothing and hopefully people will catch onto that.

When she debates Biden, it's going to be like a little league baseball team going up against the Houston Astros.
