Subject: Echo chamber & Death of 'straight talk?

I’ve been wondering if our emails affect any voters or are we in an
echo-chamber? McCain is loving it that Eliza Doolittle Palin drama has become a MAJOR
distraction from focus on his record of supporting Bush 95% & on the real issues at stake.
So, I’ve compiled info that I hope will confront the derailment of straight talk.
Here goes. . .
~~~~~~~~~~
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it
expects what never was and never will be.
. . .whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own
government; that, whenever things get so far wrong as to attract their
notice, they may be relied on to set them right." - Thomas Jefferson
Is our democracy threatened by confusing and distracting misinformation in
the election coverage from the campaigns, the press, & the internet?
There are non-partisan sites to check out the claims for yourself.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
2007-Present -CEO of Presidential Campaign
Building and running a disciplined campaign organization of nearly 1000 ee’s
and a budget exceeding $200 million. He has built "an amazingly strong
machine," says Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, president of the Chief Executive
Enterprise organization. See also:
2005-Present -US Senate
Senator Obama serves on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee,
which oversees health care, schools, employment, and retirement programs. He
is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, which influences American
policy around the world, including our policy in Iraq. He also serves on the
Veterans’ Affairs Committee, which focuses on veteran care and services. In
2005 and 2006, he served on the Environment and Public Works Committee,
which safeguards the environment and provides highway funding.
As a member of the Democratic minority in the 109th Congress, he helped
create bi-partisan legislation to control conventional weapons and to
promote greater public accountability in the use of federal funds. He also
made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
During the 110th Congress, he helped create bi-partisan legislation
regarding lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, nuclear terrorism,
and care for returned U.S. military personnel. After announcing his
presidential campaign in February 2007, Obama emphasized withdrawing
American troops from Iraq, energy independence, decreasing the influence of
lobbyists, and promoting universal health care as top national priorities.
1997-2004 –IL Senate
Obama gained bipartisan support for legislation reforming ethics and health
care laws. He sponsored a law increasing tax credits for low-income workers,
negotiated welfare reform, and promoted increased subsidies for childcare.
In 2001, as co-chairman of the bipartisan Joint Committee on Administrative
Rules, he supported Republican Governor Ryan's payday loan regulations
and predatory mortgage lending regulations aimed at averting home
foreclosures, and in 2003, he sponsored and led unanimous, bipartisan
passage of legislation to monitor racial profiling by requiring police to
record the race of drivers they detained and legislation making Illinois the
first state to mandate videotaping of homicide interrogations. Obama was
reelected to the Illinois Senate in 1998, and again in 2002.
volunteers that achieved its goal of registering 150,000 of 400,000
Business to name Obama to its 1993 list of "40 under Forty" powers to be.
1991 – Author, Chicago, IL & Bali, Indonesia
version.
Review based on his grades and a writing competition. In his second year he
was elected President of the Law Review, a full-time volunteer position
functioning as Editor-in-Chief and supervising the law review's staff of 80
editors. Obama's election in February 1990 as the first black president of
the Harvard Law Review was widely reported and followed by several long,
detailed profiles. He graduated magna cum laude.
1985-1988 – Director, Developing Communities Project, Chicago, IL
including helping set up a job training program, a college preparatory
tutoring program, and a tenants' rights organization.
