Don't let doom and gloomers discourage your efforts
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 12:22 PM by quinnox
Tons of doom and gloomers popping out of the woodwork last few days. Most are legit sadly, I know because there has been group of them here for a long time. Some of them aren't though, and seem to be conducting a campaign of their own.

But regardless, don't let these folks stop you from your efforts to defeat Bush, no matter how much they try. Kerry has a great chance to win and it largely depends on the activists working hard.

1. How do we weed smoke the FAUX DUers out!
I have only been posting here for a short time, and only lurked for a while longer. But I am with you on this. We need to stop the doom and gloom, and think positive, and if we must, work harder to make sure Kerry wins in Nov.

3. The "gloom" is over the media failure to bring Repukes to any account!
Look at this latest "purple heart bandaid". Imagine what the media would be doing right now if that had happened at the Dem Convention? The media is the enemy and we must stop funding it by watching television. Period.

4. Think for yourself and question everything is a good rule of thumb
Not only are there doom and gloomers, most of whom I have read are genuinly and honestly concerned and they are not the only ones.

Equally , demagogues would have everyone be a blind cheerleader and ignore reality. Not only that, but they insist upon trashing the honest posters whose fear is as deep as theirs.

Some are perfectly capable of not being influenced by any one poster, whether it is criticism of Kerry, or demagogues for Kerry beating a drum , ignoring weak spots in his campaign that may need to be strengthened. If it is not mentioned, it goes away? How much does that serve Kerry?

5. I don't know that the "doom and gloomers" want us to stop our efforts
But legitimately, there are serious concerns about this election. Not only is it almost certain that the Repubs will try to fix Florida (at least), but the country is almost evenly split according to every poll. One bad thunderstorm could affect the entire election.

Besides, I think that they've started a lot of these posts to counter the excessive optimism. When I see posts about how Kerry's definitely going to win, he can't lose, etc., it concerns me. It's not nearly that much in the bag. Remember, DUers, most of us live in areas that are more democratic. Go through a solidly repub area and you won't think it's so assured. Plus, if you tell people "Kerry's gonna win this election!" people you say that to may NOT vote - cause if he's going to win anyway, why bother?

I'm just saying, there's 2 sides to this coin, and both have a place. Let's all temper our respective enthusiasm and pessimism - I'm praying Kerry wins, and working my damnedest to make it happen, but I have a sick feeling in my stomach over what COULD happen.

9. Yes, there were lots of Pollyannas reassuring us here in 2002

that the Dems would win.

Take the middle path between total pessimism (self-defeating) and total optimism (self-deluding). We need to realistically assess what we're up against (which means understanding our own fears and shortcomings), but we also need to have faith in our vision and our ability to overcome what we're up against together to achieve it. And then we have to fight like hell to make that vision come true.

It's an American trait, I believe, to find a balance between realism and idealism (with one balancing the other). Same goes for pessimism and optimism.

7. Just imagine the thrill we will all have when the media and all the
pollsters are wrong!
What a great feeling that will be on Nov. 3 when we can all say that we beat the bush regime and the media giants in one day!
It will feel like a liberation.
We will have the same feeling as our founding fathers when they defeated the tyranny of the British

8. Children learn to play well with others as they mature
ever watch a child having a temper tantrum in a grocery store? Nothing is SO IMPORTANT as what they want and demand at that EXACT moment. Patience is not part of their makeup.
