I changed the headline to be less negative, but seriously... our campaign needs to get its talking points together a little better.

Watching Jim Moran (who I usually like for his feistiness) responding to pig-gate by pointing out that "Lipstick on a Pig" is the name of Torie Clarke's book.

Moran pointed out that Torie Clarke worked as press spokesman for Donald Rumsfeld, so she's obviously a Republican type.

Ummm... is there anything else about Torie Clarke that campaign surrogates might want to mention? Some little detail that ought to be on the talking points fax? If only there was some nexus between Torie Clake's book and John McCain to drive the point home... Hmmm...

Uh, guys... before going to the Department of Defense Torie Clarke was JOHN MCCAIN'S press secretary.

<slaps forehead>

Torie Clark was McCain's Senate communications person during the Keating 5 scandal. (And managed his successful evasion of blame.)

In fact, that's probably why McCain used the phrase about Hillary's health plan. It's ready on his tongue because Clarke used to write his statements.

And everyone high up in our campaign should know McCain's biography like second nature.

Torie Clarke was one of the chief interviewees on the CNN McCain profile because she worked in his Senate office for so many years.

When I turned on the TV this morning they showed the book cover, and I thought, "Sweet! She handled the press for McCain during the Keating 5 scandal"

But didn't hear a thing about it.
