Maybe THIS will calm some of you down.
I've lived in my house for 17 years. We are the ONLY family that has ever resided here.

In the mail today, I receive a four color piece from the RNC asking me if I've unpacked yet? Have I settled in? Have I started my new job?

And, finally, there's a voter registration form for me to fill out because I'm 'new' to the neighborhood.

Does that reek of desperate to you? I don't know where they got their direct mail list, but the only thing I've unpacked lately is groceries.

3. Maybe so, but it cost them money. Lots of money.
Four sided, four color gloss piece on probably about 50# paper.

2. I think you're at least the 3rd DUer from VA to have gotten weird mail
from McBush. Several about absentee ballots and voter registration.

5. My daughter and several of her friends got absentee ballot
information, but it was from the state because when they were in AP Government this past year, they indicated that they would be away at college when the election was held.

Hers hasn't come yet. If it doesn't, I'll just go get her so she can vote.

4. I know a lot of local Dems have gotten mail pieces
asking them to "confirm their Republican registration" and to donate.

Which is bizarre, because these people vote in Democratic primaries and the most basic list from the voter department would have had that information on it.

7. They must be acknowledging those thousands upon thousands....
of Americans who have had to walk away from their homes caused by the Bush/McCain Economic Disaster.

RNC probably figures they will catch them, now, living in rentals or with family.

12. That would make a great ad...
Picture this:

The camera slowly zooms in on an open mailbox in front of an empty house with an overgrown lawn, weeds hip high, junk mail laying all over... a for sale "foreclosure" sign is posted in the tall grass... what you are hearing is lie after lie from the mouths of McCain and Palin... the camera reaches the mailbox... a gust of wind blows the RNC propaganda from the box and it lays open on the ground... and we read verbatim as stated in the OP.

19. Oh, that's GOOD! There's several foreclosures in my new home community
and it's very sad. My kid's playmates; people I've gotten to know.

That's a GREAT ad...

26. Wish I knew how to get it to the Obama camp...
Tugs at the heartstrings, doncha think?

There are dozens of foreclosures in my neighborhood too... and I've seen a couple of going away party banners lately too... youngsters going off to war. I don't have the heart to ask why, but with one of the families, I suspect it was because the young kid couldn't get a job.

10. It would be interesting to determine just how they got your address.
Are there lots of homes changing hands in your neighborhood? Maybe they just picked areas with lots of turnover and blanketed them?

11. Good question. Actually, no.
Due to the economy and the fact that there are some newer developments going in nearby, (not the same zip), houses in my neighborhood aren't selling right now.

House across the street has been on the market for six months, and it is an outstanding deal.

Plus, with school just opening, those that are on the market will likely stay on the market until at least the spring unless a desperate buyer appears. That's just how it goes here.

Perhaps they have a list that they'll be using to contest your registration and vote. You're in a highly contested state.

17. Actually, that's not desperation. It's could be CAGING.
It's used by the RNC as a voter repression tactic. They were hoping that the mail would be returned as "undeliverable" to them, so that when you arrived at the polls they could challenge your registration.

It's increasingly common and helped Bush/Cheney in Ohio in 2004 more than most people realize.

And whew!

Still, I imagine caging is already well underway, especially in African-American precincts. And it's good to keep an eye on it.

But, I like your narrative better: The GOP has lost the plot!!!

20. Mr. B@L will be voting in his first GE this year (new US citizen). He's gotten several
mailers from the RNC and local republican campaigns. He went STRAIGHT from his swearing-in ceremony to Dem HQ to register, but I find that very interesting that they are trying to sway him.

22. Ummm... not so fast. I would call the registrar recorder's office about this.
It's happening in Hanford, CA too. Only Dems are getting these emails - from the RNC, seeking to ascertain whether this is a "cage-able" vote. I would report it to ANYONE you can think of. The Obama campaign - locally AND nationally, the Secretary of State in your state, your newspaper(s), etc. Send it out on the web, too - to local activists.

Don't let this one fall through the rabbit hole!!!!

And be sure to keep a copy.

I posted this here the other day, from the California Progressive Caucus:

I got this message from a friend who used to live here in Fresno . Is this RNC voter registration scam going on in other counties? --- Jay

Here is a heads up. Today my wife (a registered Dem) received a Mailer from the RNC with McCain's name on it. Inside was a brief letter identifying her as possibly being unregistered and a bogus registration card to be returned to the RNC. The letter also solicited funds. We checked with other Hanford Democrats and found that they had all received the letter and that local Republicans had NOT.

Now I may be a little paranoid from reading too much Greg Palest and Thomas Frank but this smells like a set up for creating new caging lists of registered Democrats in our area. I plan to report the letter (I kept 2 copies) to the local Obama campaign and the national as well on Monday but I thought I would see if anyone else got this suspicious mailing.

Jim Bartram (In Exile in Hanford CA )

BEWARE. Report it. Make some noise. These assholes like to operate in the dark. SHINE SOME LIGHT ON 'EM and and disrupt their sneaky shit and make 'em scatter like cockroaches.

30. Truly. Might also be a new appointee from the home office somewhere else than
in your state, might be somebody new to the whole thing. Depending on who's doing the hiring and making the assignments. If there's some area that needs more attention and yours is considered by them not to be such an area, perhaps that other area will get the firecracker or the experienced operative, and yours will get the new guy. Maybe they're in a hurry, and vetted the person supervising this the way they seem to have vetted sarah palin. Maybe they're under-funded and the money's spread out a little too thin, and they can't afford ALL the experienced political fighter-jocks for all the areas of need and they had to make choices, so yours got the novice who'd work cheaper or for free.

Remember, the republi-CONS aren't fundraising this year like they're used to doing. They're used to drowning in dollars. This time, they're having to pick and choose where they spend what they spend because they have a lot more turf to defend this time, and a lot of it is shaky. They're having to spend where they're not used to having to spend. And if you've suddenly got to do that, then you have to make some inconvenient decisions.

Could well be a relative amateur was in charge of this, or had to do a rush job and didn't have the time or personnel to look everything over. People miss things all the time. Certainly I'm among those who should know. Maybe they just looked at a read-out of Dems versus 'CONS and dug no deeper.

23. And I just got polled for the first time!!! It was interesting...lol
It sounded like an elderly lady, very, very southern (I live in NC).

(paraphrasing)

"Do you plan to vote in the presidential election or are you unsure?"

"Oh, I DEFINITELY will be voting."

"As of today, do you think you'll vote for Sen. McCain, Sen. Obama, or other?"

"Senator Obama."

With a big sigh of frustration, "Fine." And she hung up!

LOL

I'm hoping that means they're getting a lot of the same answers -- answers they don't want, but answers we DO!

:)

If it were a real poll, you'd expect some followup demographic questions.

32. Mr. B@L is a new voter; became a US citizen 2 years ago.
He is, of course, a registered Democrat (or I wouldn't have married him).

So he gets a mailer from John McCain marked "URGENT." He opens it; it's a letter asking for as much money as he can spare. Of course he got irritated by that--but here's the BIG kicker: He has a great position in a major international shipping company. The envelope was from FedEX--he doesn't work for FedEx.

Warning: FedEx document envelopes are VERY destructible as I can bear witness to...

FWIW; they totally messed up his Asian Indian name; which is why I suspect they didn't know he was a Democrat.
