The hopelessness and negativity is deafening here at DU
Seriously...I'm working my ass off for Obama, canvassing, making calls, working in the office, whatever it takes to help win this election. Then I come here and get deflated. I don't have time to pay attention to polls, I'm just trying to keep focused on the win and Obama's principles.

I'm not trying to sound off like I'm better than anyone, but damn it, do something other than sit and worry and insist along with the media that we're fucked. Take one hour out of your life and volunteer to help. Every additional voter we talk to and convince that Obama is the right choice is a step toward winning this election.

There are people out there who are not being polled. People in NH who do not have to register til voting day who are planning on voting for Obama. We do not have a clear picture of who is or is not voting for him. The more of us who take the time to talk to people in our neighborhoods, the better chance we have of pulling this thing off. I talked to three republicans yesterday who are leaning Obama. Three....on one street.

So all I can say is, I have turned all my rage, fear, and hopelessness into action and the payoff is that I sleep at night knowing I am doing everything thing I can to help win this thing.

1. Recommended
I have issues with Obama, but I feel better about voting for him than I have about Democratic candidates in a long time. GrayWarrior, I share your annoyance.

2. Some people are just not happy
Unless they have something to gripe about. I am convinced of that. And keep up the hard work. I know I am doing a little something, as the schedule allows. There is a little thing called a job that is no. 1 responsibility, but there is spare time somewhere to work for the Obama campaign.

5. And remember, Democrats have outdone Republicans
in voter registrations, people attended more Democratic caucuses than Republicans and voted in the Democratic Primaries than Republicans. Stop worrying and start working, YES WE CAN!

27. Enthusiasm
If the primaries are any indication (and they ARE) Obama will win in a landslide. No need for doom and gloom. Obama has electrified people like no one since Kennedy.

7. This is the healthiest place to hangout
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 09:20 AM by ramapo
On edit....I meant this is NOT the healthiest place.

I find myself spending far too much time following DU, Huffingtonpost, BuzzFlash, etc.

After the past few days, I'm ready to crawl into a cave and cry. You would think Obama had gone down in a landslide.

Obama needs to convince American voters that he should get their vote. No doubt that we all have our work cut out for us. The debates will be crucial. Events will shape the mode of the electorate. How this all ends up is any body's guess but if we all sit here feeling sorry for ourselves because Obama isn't up by 10 points then we might as well get use to the idea of President McCain.

There is no doubt that this is a tough campaign. Palin has definitely changed the landscape a bit but just imagine the impact of Lieberman or Ridge. They're not cute but both are far more mainstream. Palin will bring in their base but their base will not win the election. Lieberman/Ridge would've alienated their base but made the ticket much more attractive to moderates.

Palin is going to get kid-glove treatment for the next couple of weeks. The McCain camp has positioned her in an almost no lose situation. All she needs to do is be likable, clearly her biggest asset, and not say anything stupid so the less said the better. She will be accommodated. She will be seen as a success as long as she doesn't screw up too badly, the bar will be low.

11. Avoiding the negative doesn't make it go away
I prefer the motto -- hope for the best and prepare for the worst. People who refuse to admit that there are threats and dangers out there are just asking to be run over.

15. I think it's fear.
I know I'm a bit afraid of what 4 more years of Republican rule could bring. My husband & I are middle class & the past few years have been a real struggle. We think that Obama will help our economy & make the future better for our kids. We think that with McSame we will see the rich get richer & people like us just trying to hold on & get by.

I don't know how people could even consider voting for the GOP ticket, yet I know many who will!

Some DU'ers need to stop complaining and bitching and get out there to do some REAL WORK.

 Good for you for the work you've been doing!

I've volunteered with our local Obama office to do phone-banking and I also just signed up for a Obama Camp weekend training to do GOTV work in swing states.

I do, however, have a B.A. in Politics. :D plus a lot of advertising sales backround. I ain't no dumbshit, but maybe they have enough people already, who knows?

19. Sometimes I wonder if we are not suffering from
a PTS (post traumatic stress) from the last 8 years of neo con dirty tricks etc. Because it seems the least negative press, will get "some" into a major funk. And if you try to bring them out of it, they get really angry with you.

21. We're as depressed after their convention as we are estatic after ours, that's all.
Things will be back to normal around here by the end of the week.

In the meantime, get out there and fight for your candidate by speaking to others and protesting the national media's being bullied by the McCain camp.

Being wary is crucial, being defeated is a self fulfilling prophecy.

Losing is not an option, stop pretending it is one.

Scream, fight, donate, knock on doors, preach the good word on the streets, but never ever give up.

36. I am really tired hearing that the sky is falling, we can't win.
I know what I saw working two weeks of early voting during the primaries here in Houston, Texas.

The Democratic voters outnumbered the Republican voters 10 to 1.

People of all ages were so excited to be voting, and they had to wait in a very long line to vote.

The lines for this election will be even longer.

I don't mind the 12 plus hour days because I know we will win.

Stop the nervous nelly act.

We will win.

38. Don't be too hard on us
Sometimes we need to come to DU, a safe space, for some group therapy. I know it's helped me out tremendously and recharged my batteries to fight another day. Politics isn't for wimps, and I'll be the first to admit that I get demoralized sometimes. But its helpful to read posts from folks like you to give me some well needed perspective.

It's not going to be easy, and it's naive for any of us to think that.
