Polls: Look at the internals, and chill out.

Before freaking out at polls showing McCain surging ahead, it's a good idea to actually look at the specifics of the polling.

Most of McCain's bump has been caused by the pollster's decision to boost the number of identified Republicans sampled. They believe this is justified because of the assumption that Palin will rally conservatives who were unlikely to vote before. So, take these polls with a grain of salt, and remember, back during the primaries, the pollsters got damn near every election wrong, sometimes by wide margins.

(Which, by the way, have been lousy not just this year, but for a long, long time)

But in all the other post convention polls I've seen, the percentage of GOP has been boosted.I'm betting that the same is true here as well.
