I've been happier than in a long time after having watched CNN when JOE BIDEN addressed health care issues. God, he's good.:D

Thank you, fellow DUers for always telling us when Obama and Biden are on TV. ~HUGS~

20. Props for Joe Biden
He was great today on MTP and another good interview on the plane:

Biden Says Palin's Gender Doesn't Change His Debate Game
(KALISPELL, MT.) - Joe Biden says he’s not expecting anything different from what he’s used to in taking on Sarah Palin in the upcoming vice presidential debate.

“I’ve got to say, I find it fascinating. It seems like the only people in the room that think that debating a woman is going to be fundamentally different are people who don’t hang around with smart women,” Biden said aboard his campaign plane as he traveled to Montana today.

“I mean, you know, the idea that I’ve not debated tough, smart women. Come to the Senate, man. Take on Barbara Mikulski. You know, uh, take on Olympia Snowe. You know, take on Dianne Feinstein. Take on Barbara Boxer. Take on you know, the list goes on.

In response to questioners who ask if he will prepare differently for debating a woman, Biden said, “I think they’re in a time warp. They’re in another era. If they’d ask that question, you know, when I got to the Senate, when there were no women, you’d say, ‘Yeah, I wonder how this is going to work.’ ”

61. Link, please!
"McCain 55, Obama 46 among likely voters!"

What is the source of that bit of information?

And, as much as you and I hate it, Palin read and delivered a great speech...by the standards for which the speech was designed. It introduced the Palins as a normal, everyday family group and it attacked Obama. It was chock full of lies, hate, zingers, attacks, innuendoes and character assassinations that appeal to the good Christians of the Repubican Party. Our guy, Joe Biden, was "right-on" to call it as he did.

I'm thinkin' that you misunderstand Joe's intention, Dennis. You see, crafty old debaters set you up for the kill with a statement like that. During the debates, Joe will tear the hell out the personal attacks but leave the Palin family short-comin's to the blogs.

Be patient. Old timers choose both when and where to fight. During his talks around the country, he's already taking Palin's message apart ~ little by litte, piece by piece ~ to adoring audiences. Those "likely voters" will be watchin' the debate. I hope and trust that they will see a master debater slowly and carefully perform critical surgery on Palin's extreme-right platform planks, leaving her exposed as the imposter that she is.

65. I couldn't believe my ears!
When Joe told Tom that he, personally, held his Catholic viewpoint on abortion but would not foist that opinion on others, I realized the incredible depth of character of the man. I don't think anyone in the Country supports abortion. But, a great many support the right of each individual to make a personal decision in the matter.

The illegalization of abortion didn't nor won't make it go away. Poor women would continue to make that terrible, extremely personal choice. Some would die from such a choice. Rich women would have the doctor of their choice perform a "D & C", paid for by the insurance that they could afford.

Maybe, just maybe, some folks on the other side will open their eyes and minds to that truth. Then, Obama and Joe can initiate legislation that supports women facing that choice, giving them options, counciling, preventative education, and medical assistance for their ultimate choice...no matter which way it goes.

Brokaw fed him a bunch of right wing talking points and Biden knocked them down like the straw men they are.

For the record, I don't blame Brokaw. Quite the contrary, I think it's important to air out the RW bullshit in MSM. It gives our side a chance to counter it with logic and truth which Biden did BRILLIANTLY.

76. It's cool to see how many DUers are finally getting the chance
to see Biden in his true element - I had the opportunity to see him at a campaign event prior to the Iowa Caucuses, and he had the capacity crowd completely fired up! It was very disappointing to see him to do as poorly as he did in the actual tally, but felt his presence could make a serious impact later in the campaign. Nice to see some things work out!

81. He speaks from his heart.
The statements about people losing their jobs touch me deeply -- speaking truth to power.

When people lose their jobs they become depressed. This is especially true for older people. Just getting a new job of some sort does not get rid of the depression -- the feeling of worthlessness -- especially if the new job pays less and is less rewarding in other ways.

It is just devastating to a person's life to lose their job -- devastating.

And there is so little written about these problems. I think the silence is due to the fact that\it is politically incorrect to admit you have lost your job much less talk about how you feel after you lose one. It is assumed that if you lost your job, you deserved it. Admitting you lost a job is almost the same as admitting you are not good at what you do. If you tell the truth about it on your resume, for example, you will never get another job, no matter what may have been the real reason you were dismissed or not rehired. That is just as true if you were accused of doing something wrong as it is if you were sexually harassed or too old or your boss just couldn't afford to keep you on or your company shipped your job overseas. No matter, losing your job is viewed as shameful and something you brought upon yourself.

And on the other hand and in spite of the view that it is somehow the fault of the person who lost the job, you are just supposed to be able to deal with it. It's just part of free enterprise, isn't it? If you are an employee, you have to do what the boss, the owner, wants, don't you? The boss, the owner has all the rights and you have none? Americans seem to think that is the way it has to be. (A lot of countries have laws that protect employees in cases of job loss.)

It used to be a person could start a small business, but that is very difficult today. First, it is nearly impossible to get enough capital together to begin something, and second, you inevitably have to compete against the equivalent in your field of a big box store -- some competitor with seemingly endless capital or credit and a thousand employees. It is especially depressing if your competitor hires people to do your job who are living on a dollar a day in some third world country.

Americans have been downgraded over the past 30 years. We earn comparatively less, we have less responsibility in the workplace and we have less money saved than we did. Sure, we have more cheap junk and the rich have bigger houses, but we actually have less wealth. The illusion of prosperity that we have, if we have it, is, to a great extent due to those dollar-a-day people in the third world. And the comforts like well-kept gardens in our own country are due to immigrants we work for next to nothing and live in sub-standard housing.

All of our economic problems go back to the loss of jobs. I must say Bill Clinton saw the problem, and applied a band-aid to it, but no real solution. The Republicans see this "problem" as an opportunity. Fewer jobs mean cheaper labor. Cheap labor is what they want because they are rich and it means they can take higher salaries, make bigger profits. Now, Joe Biden, finally, really seems to get it. He is not talking in the abstract about this problem, not just paying lip service to what jobs mean. Maybe it's because his state is small enough that he actually gets to know his constituents. That is a good thing.

(And for the trolls. Yes, Alaska has a small population. But it is vast. I doubt that Sarah Palin knows her constituents the way Joe Biden does. He has been representing them in the Senate for many years and takes the train home most nights. He is in touch with ordinary people and their problems.)

Joe Biden. Great job.

84. I, too think that Joe Biden is a wonderful choice. . .
Ever since John Roberts couldn't stop laughing about Mitt Romney's poor dog on the top of Romney's vehicle, I have thought that John Roberts is an IDIOT!!! I could not and still cannot find cruelty to an animal to be funny. This interview reinforces my opinion.

In this interview with Biden, Roberts keeps mentioning that Biden is raising expectations as a political ploy on Biden's part. But why shouldn't there be high expectations for anyone running for Vice President? Why should we lower our standards just because Palin is a woman? If she doesn't measure up to the standard, she shouldn't be in office. PERIOD!
