I would respectfully disagree with the often-stated notion that Obama supporters should maintain focus on McCain and not be "distracted" by Palin.
Barack Obama must, for lots of obvious reasons, stay focused on McCain. I don't think there's been any serious arguing against that.
But I think the rest of us really do need to pour all the effort and ability we can spare into the mission of allowing Palin to disqualify herself.
Because of her speech the other night, tens of millions of "low information voters" are, right now, trying to decide whether or not she's for real. Unfortunately, they (who vastly outnumber the politically engaged), not we, will determine whether or not political deviancy is dumbed down even further than it already has been. On the other hand, the LIV's could conclude to say, "Enough! This far and no farther!" to political insanity and imbecility that is in many ways even worse than that of Bush. (Worse than Bush. Hm.)
There's no need at all to spread scurrilous rumors about Palin. She's already presented the world with innumerable thoroughly-corroborated, indisputable facts showing her to be grotesquely unqualified for high office of any kind. More inarguable facts will come to light. We need to point out those indisputable facts at every opportunity while pushing media of all kinds to do likewise. If Joe and Joanne Sixpack start to become really, really clear about the fact that Palin's grotesquely unqualified, not only will she be finished politically, it'll also be just a little bit harder for the GOP to inflict other pleasant-seeming ideologue-imbeciles on us in the future.
If, on the other hand, she escapes this election with lots of credibility among "low information voters" intact, the possibility of her mounting a successful presidential run four years from now becomes very real.
So I say we do what we can to nip Caribou Barbie in the bud NOW while it should be relatively easy to do so -- thanks to pretty much everything she's done personally and politically to this point.
I suspect that you-all find the prospect of a 2013 Palin inauguration to be about as disturbing as I do.
