Exclusive: Advance copy of John McCain speech to RNC
Exclusive to RAW STORY, Full text at http://rawstory.com

This week, millions of Americans, not all Republicans, weigh our claim on their support for the two men who have led our country in these challenging times with moral courage and firm resolve.

So I begin with the words of a great American from the other party, given at his party's convention in the year I was born.

My purpose is not imitation, for I can't match his eloquence, but respect for the relevance in our time of his rousing summons to greatness of an earlier generation of Americans.

In a time of deep distress at home, as tyranny strangled the aspirations to liberty of millions, and as war clouds gathered in the West and East, Franklin Delano Roosevelt accepted his party's nomination by observing:

"There is a mysterious cycle in human events. To some generations much is given. Of other generations much is expected. This generation of Americans has a rendezvous with destiny."

The awful events of September 11, 2001 declared a war we were vaguely aware of, but hadn't really comprehended how near the threat was, and how terrible were the plans of our enemies.

It's a big thing, this war.

1. 'This war?' Does this not bug you?
Seems a little weak to me.

3. Yep. What gets me is they practically brag
that the convention is going to be all about 9/11. I don't understand what's to brag about. Supposedly it's all about Bush's great leadership on the "War on Terror", but would someone please explain to me what the fuck he has done in 4 years except increase terrorism and send thousands to unnecessary death.

4. but..but...he's a WAR TIME PRESIDENT
Donchu know that means he gets a free pass :silly:
Exploiting 9/11 will backfire. The DNC was tasteful and not political with regards to 9/11; the blatant use for politcal gains of 9/11 WILL cause SERIOUS backlash to W.

5. He has good writers. That's a good speech.
I know, you all hate me for saying that. I'm glad to see that he didn't gush over shrub. It sounded to me like he does believe in the need to wage both wars, and the rest of what he said was short of what he had to say to remain a "good Pub" and keep his high rating with the voters of AZ.

I agree that we had to go into Afghanastan, but I believe going into Iraq WHEN WE DID was irresponsible. I think Rummy did it so he could prove his military could fight 2 wars at one time.

Are you certain the speech text is legit?
I like to be cautious with these things. Mind you, he'll be speaking shortly and we can compare, but I'm skeptical about everything these days.

6. I couldn't find the part where he says
"I accept the nomination as vice president."

Must be an early draft.
