No Questions! Campaign says Palin won't answer any questions -- just read speeches from now on
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 05:25 PM by nichomachus
http://www.time-blog.com/swampland/2008/09/no_questions_please_were.html

According to Nicole Wallace of the McCain campaign, the American people don't care whether Sarah Palin can answer specific questions about foreign and domestic policy. According to Wallace -- in an appearance I did with her this morning on Joe Scarborough's show -- the American people will learn all they need to know (and all they deserve to know) from Palin's scripted speeches and choreographed appearances on the campaign trail and in campaign ads.

So, you can just stuff it, peasants.

spread this around. Read the transcript, not just somebody's interpretation of it.

She was discussing Palin's speech - that it was an introduction of Palin to the people. That the purpose of it was to get to know who she is, that the people weren't interested in the other stuff.

I think the conversation was about the speech only -- I don't believe she was indicating that Palin won't answer questions in the future.

The campaign knows they'd be mincemeat if they tried that approach.

44. Then, why is she ducking the Sunday talk shows?
You'd think that an unknown candidate, new to the campaign, would be trotted around to be on all the shows to get the exposure that she's going to need about two months from now.

But, she's ducking the shows. How strange!

66. Just for the record
I watched the segment on Morning Joe. She absolutely said, several times in response to the Times guy (and in the course of the general conversation as well), that it was not important for Sarah to answer any media questions, that the only questions she'd take would be from the american public. She ended on that note as well, emphatically, when the Times guy again mentioned questions to be answered, "not from the media."

I don't know what other program she may have appeared on, and spoken differently. The one I am referring to was this morning. It was something else.

The media will spend the next two months blabbing about how Palin is hiding from them like Dick Cheney in his bunker. McCain himself isn't exactly going to be Mr. Available himself, either.

Meanwhile, Obama goes on Bill O'Reilly. Palin and McCain will be unwilling to face the harsh interrogation of Larry King.

52. I watched that on Morning Joe; bitched on every post I could about it
Nicole was a piece of work - laughed each time as she dismissed the idea that Sarah would be answerin question from "the media". From the american public? Oh sure, but not from media.

Said it multiple time; made sure she got it in one more time, ending the set with yet another crack about how Sarah will NOT be answering, if it it the media asking. I never figured out why she kept laughing like it was ridiculous to even suggest that it would be important to answer media questions, when it is the voter's opinions only that count.

How wierd is that? Like americans should stay home from work to wait for Sarah to have a q & a session some day? Or do a single rushed whistle stop in their town? I think we like the press doing its job for us, them and the whole nation; so we can dig further if we need, or just get some help figuring out the issues raised, so we can make better decisions.

Same as Bush's heavily scripted, exclusive campaign rallies and his supersecret Presidency. Joe Sixpack might humiliate them in a spontaneous exchange, not to mention what the press might do. Neither Bush nor Palin has the intellect to hold high office, but they're going to do everything they can to hide that fact.

McCain's campaign told a Times Reporter this morning that Palin wasn't going to be answering questions of the media and blew them off as unimportant.

If we make a big deal about Palin not doing the debate, she will look good for just showing up.

IMO, I think it's better to let their people and the media talk and make excuses for her.

If she does not show you can be sure it will be a family (baby) emergency, of which it will be "Who would not understand and do the same in this situation.

She must show up, AND if she doesn't we have to trust the thinking of those would have watched that debate.

70. I said it before. This is a fundy/neo con coup in the GOP. Palin will be the president in all but

name. Mc Cain will be a potted plant that Palin
will water once in a while if she remembers to.

72. Bring on the tons of ads against her
I hope Move On runs short ads addressing each of her scandals and weirdities. For example, I'd like to see a Move On ad showing her addressing the 2008 AIP convention with her words "keep up the good work", followed by quotes by past AIP leaders who describe how they hate the United States.

If she won't get out there and answer these allegations or submit to a long interview in which specific questions are asked, rebuttals by campaign spokespeople and surrogates won't work. She has to address these things herself or they remain unrebutted.

73. This is actually a smart strategy for the McCain camp because.
She's actually as dumb as a fucking door knob unscripted. Good call...

74. They need to edit that statement to read "the Republican voters don't care
whether Sarah Palin can answer specific questions about foreign and domestic policy".

75. Another McCain talking point goes down.
Is he still going to accuse Obama of merely being a candidate that just makes speeches?

79. Debate questions
Q. Mr. Biden, are you comfortable with the fact that Barack Osama, I mean Obama, and his wife are terrorists.

Q. Governor Palin, do you think Jesus loves puppy dogs as much as he does pussycats.

Q. Mr. Biden, do you think people should be allowed to marry animals.

Q. Governor Palin, what's your favorite color and why.

of answering questions, so now she doesn't have to. :-(
