Bush: policies "aimed at empowering people to make their own decisions"
Ok, here's another ridiculous quote from Boosh in the Matt Lauer interview... (seen just a bit ago on MSNBC)...

BUSH: "My policies are all aimed at empowering people to make their own decisions."

Please nail him him on this. Start compiling a list of how Bush is trying to limit individual freedom -- outright or in favor of corporate freedom.

e.g.

  • removal of abortion as a choice
  • removal of marriage as a choice for gay couples
  • soldiers not allowed to choose to leave military service at the completion of their term-of-service, through implementation of stop-loss
  • removal of embryonic stem cell research as a choice for medical research professionals
    ...

Lauer had an excellent opportunity to expose the fallacy of Bush's statement, but I'm sure there was no followup. (There certainly wasn't any in the MSNBC clip I saw.)

1. Buying prescription drugs from Canada.
Attending a Bush rally wearing a Kerry teeshirt.
Suing a company that injures you or your family.
Traveling or sending money to Cuba.

2. This is a powerful marketing tool for the Republicans...
And there has been no coherent response from the Dems. This is a sugar coating for a slide into Third World conditions with rampant poverty, workers with no power against the corporations and justice meted out according to one's assets (we're almost there now.) Most people just hear the bit about more money in their pocket (which won't really happen as demonstrated by the Bush tax scam.)

I think that it should be emphasized that you will have to WORRY even more about health care, retirement and disability. Who's going to look out for the average Joe? Wall Street? The insurance companies? Employers who outsource your job at the drop of a hat? The U.S. government has been the only trustworthy actor in the social safety net which was created because when Republicans had things their way before their Great Depression, the world was a brutal place and life was short for most people.

4. this is the whole hypocrisy of this statement
less government involved in the people's lives yet they want the FEDERAL government to ban gay marriage and to ban abortion??? that couldn't be more contradictory!

6. Exactly. But what about other examples....
... examples that would hit the brainwashed in the bread basket? (They won't likely relate to the abortion and gay marriage bans, so they need to be educated in other ways that "we, the peeps" are losing our freedoms -- to corporations, to government, etc.)

7. We can still choose which bridge to sleep under
which dumpster to dine out of, which corner to beg on, which hospital to be turned away from.

That's choice, aint it?
