1. Turn it around and ask why his accuser (O'Neill) lied
about never being in Cambodia when he admitted to Nixon that he was?

2. Here's an excellent debunking of the "Kerry not in Cambodia" BS
See: Holiday in Cambodia, Slate, Fred Kaplan It's a decent article attempting to detail that period for Kerry.

Also, O'Neill himself has been debunked by his own words.

I don't necessarily know whether John Kerry was in Cambodia *literally* on Christmas Eve 1968 or not, but I'm certain, beyond a reasonable doubt, he crossed into Cambodia near that time. (The term "fog of war" comes to mind.) What's the point of quibbling over this issue?

Would that Boosh be held to a standard remotely as critical as what the media is requiring of Kerry (in passing the SBVT lies along as a matter for debate). Just ask the repug to bring *ANY* documentation on Bush's missing service, and point him/her to the long-offered $10,000 reward for anyone coming forward with evidence of Bush's service during the AWOL period.

3. Ask if Christie Todd Whitman's husband was lying, too
She's said that he went upriver into Cambodia with John Kerry that Christmas.

I don't doubt that Sen. Kerry was in and around Cambodia at the time he says he was. Why? There is no reason to doubt it. There were Special Forces, SOGs, Montagnards, and CIA crawling all over Vietnam's "neutral" neighbors trying to locate NVA camps and supply lines for bombardment. It's not even seriously contested anymore.

Why would Sen. Kerry lie about that? There's no reason to do so.

4. He didn't lie about it
He was near Cambodia earlier in the day. He could easily have been in cambodia that night. It was not uncommon for there to be secret missions into cambodia. It was also not uncommon for boats to end up in cambodia by mistake.

5. An argument could be made he got the date wrong
This is on the same scalse as when Bush went after Gore for confusing who he went with frm Fema on different trips to disaster areas.

The can't find any real red meat, so they paint grizzle red and pretend to be outraged.

8. At a minimum, Kerry got the year (1968) wrong.
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 07:40 AM by IndianaGreen
The US did not have military personnel in Cambodia in 1968, during the Johnson Administration. Kerry would have been court martialed if he had gone into Cambodia in 1968 in violation of the rules of engagement. Now, 1969 and beyond is a different issue altogether.

Kerry's own biographer conceded the point recently.

Kerry's tour in Vietnam 35 years ago has nothing to do with the current war in Iraq. As a matter of fact, many of our politicians seem to have forgotten the lessons of Vietnam. To many of us veterans, there is no difference between the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution that got us into Vietnam in a big way and the Iraq War Resolution. Both were based on lies!

Now, who is going to get us out of Iraq without lingering there as Nixon did in Vietnam?

9. And we had troops fighting in Iraq...
Six months before we officially declared war on them. 20 years from now, a former special operations officer can say that he was fighting in Iraq on Christmas Eve of 2002, and he'll be correct, even though we didn't start the official war until March of 2003.

Tay Ninh Province. we, unofficially & illegally, crossed into Cambodia several Xs that month, & again in 1/69, chasing the 9th reinforced NVA Regiment.

if Kerry made that statement, i believe him.

7. My friend Fred...
The sweetest guy who never really returned from Nam, was a Combat Engy. He operated in Cambodia.

He remembers everything in detail. Prolly the reason why he never really came home. Prolly the reason why he can never live on his own.

Just the sweetest guy in the world.
