Gimme an "H". Gimme a "Y". Gimme a "P". Gimme an "O". Gimme a "C".
Gimme a C, an R, an I, a T, and an E.

What's it spell? REPUBLICAN.

I am so F*&KING SICK of this bullshit.

The world according to Republicans:

You must be abstinate, no birth control, you can't teach birth control...unless we decide to have sex, and then it is OK for us, not for you.
Government is bad, bad, bad - drown it in a bathtub - unless it is for us to tell you how to live, such as banning abortion.
It is all about Jesus, God and the bible - unless it is part of Jesus teachings or the bible that we simply don't want to acknowledge - hence it is OK for we fundie preachers to take people for millions of dollars that they don't have, or for selfish self -righteous republican hypocrites to hoard and hoard and not do anything to help those less fortunate....so anything in this area that Jesus taught or did doesn't apply.
We are the chosen ones by God - so it doesn't matter what sort of assholes we are, we know we are saved, and the rest of you are screwed.

What babygate has reinforced in me is what a totally destructive, dysfunctional the Republican party is - and if we can't beat them this election, with the quality of Obama and Biden, then I am utterly stumped as to what it will take.

2. McCain/Palin: Hypocrisy First
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 03:03 PM by zuzu98
Don't forget:

We're all about 'family values' and endlessly preach about how "sacred" heterosexual marriage is, unless we want to commit adultery and/or divorce our first wives for younger/richer ones (Cindy's father did it, too, it's not just McSame)

5. I am willing to bet that there is more than one DUer who has had a child
who did not do as they were taught by their parents or who went against how they were raised. Many of us have been disappointed because the older children get, the more responsible they are for their own decisions. If I have a child who goes against things I would have taught them as a Democrat or my values, does that make me a hypocrite or simply a disappointed parent?

One thing I totally agree with is that if we cannot win this election with the current climate in this country, then we may as well pack it in. When would we ever have a better chance than this?

7. My point is that these things are OK! Dems don't tend to be judgemental on them...
it is the Republicans who don't practice what they preach! Both my kids have made mistakes, both my wife and I made mistakes - but none of us go out there with a holier than thou attitude knocking people for it. I don't think you got my post!

11. Does "every" Republican act holier than thou, or is this a generalization?
Just as Dems "tend" to not be judgmental. I got your post, but I'm not that upset. I expect dogs to bark and cows to moo because it is their nature. Such is life.

12. Well, in my state of NC, the vast majority of them do, in my view.
And I am not saying all Dems are faultless, not by any stretch. Sorry, the past 8 years of getting Bush and the Fundie philosophy rammed down our throats has me very chafed. I have to say that I do not like anything about those vast majority of Republicans that I see or know and I don't like anything about their so-called values or way of living.

13. However many there are, that's just the way they are and what can you do about it?
Change what you can, impact what you can. I accept that Republicans will act like Republicans and am not surprised by it. I also realize that it is their right to change and impact things according to their beliefs and they probably do not like our Democrat or Liberal philosophy rammed down their throats either.

9. i fail to see any hypcrisy in "babygate"
i certainly agree with your major point, that republicans are the grand hypocrisy party and that hypocrisy abounds in many of their positions, attacks, standards, etc.

however, in this particular case, they preach no abortion, and she didn't have an abortion when she was pregant with a downs baby, and bristol is not having an abortion at 17.

they preach abstinance and while bristol made a choice in that regard that her parents wouldn't have approved, she's living with the consequences and accepting it as the responsible thing to do (or god's will, or whatever).

my point is, in this one particular instance, there's no hypocrisy. yes, they talk about abstinance and bristol obviously didn't abide by that one. but no one on the abstinance-only side ever claimed (afaik) that abstinance-only education will lead to zero teenage pregnancies. their view is simply that it's the most effective and moral way to deal with the problem, and, in the typical case where they're also anti-abortionists, that the teenager who does become pregnant must at least carry to term.

NOTE that i'm not at all a supporter of abstinance-only education, it's just plain stupid at best, immoral at worst. it's burying your head in the sand and letting kids discover through ignorance and parental neglect everything you hoped to protect them from. all i'm saying is that there are many far better targets for the "hypocrisy" label, some of which you've listed in your post.
