Sarah Palin has Pastor Problems
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 01:02 AM by IWantAnyDem
and the hits just keep on coming:

Palin and Her Pastors: “Those that die without Christ have a horrible, horrible surprise”
By Ken Silverstein and Sebastian Jones

During the 2008 campaign the beliefs of various candidates’ pastors has attracted a great deal of attention, especially the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, as well as John Hagee, who endorsed John McCain. So now seems a good time to examine the viewpoints of Sarah Palin’s two most recent pastors, as expressed in their sermons.

Since becoming governor in 2006, Palin has attended the Juneau Christian Center, where Mike Rose serves as senior pastor. Her previous pastor was David Pepper of the Church on the Rock in Palin’s hometown of Wasilla — a church that “was kind of a foundation for her.”

<snip>

From a July 28, 2007 sermon: “Do you believe we’re in the last days? After listening to Newt Gingrich and the Prime Minister of Israel and a number of others at our gathering, I became convinced and I have been convinced for some time. We are living in the last days. These are incredible times to live in.”

<snip>

From an November 25, 2007 sermon: “The purpose for the United States is… to glorify God. This nation is a Christian nation.”

Harpers Article

They most definitely didn't vet this candidate.

17. I expect nothing less, of course
What's your religion?

Christian.

Any particular...?

No. Bible-believing Christian.
http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1837536-3,00.html

I have Bible-believing Christians in my family. I know where they stand on these issues. And though I haven't heard from them about Palin as McCain's running mate, I'm sure they are pleased as punch.

This particular brand of boxed religion is scarier than most, imho.

who actually had different points for us all to consider living by. these dorks are the pharisees that won. Ignore them. They will lose in the end.

26. I'm not sure the public has really been tested on this
If she comes out with some really off-the-wall statements it could blow up. Most of the more expereienced candidates are pretty careful with religion.

12. Hagee is white
and Hagee became a problem for McCain.

Hagee is also connected with one of the pastors.

Man, they never vetted this woman.

And she scares the fuck out of me that she NOW has a chance to be the President... let that sink in.. that woman could be PRESIDENT. In charge of Supreme Court appointments, in charge of judicial appointments, as VP she could be a tie breaking vote. WTF?

Me? I see foolishness and vanity in it. But my opinion is hardly relevant, because she lost me at "McCain chose".

18. She has pastor problems, all right,
to those of us who don't believe that “Those that die without Christ have a horrible, horrible surprise”, but we wouldn't vote for her, anyway. To the fundies and Xtians, this is another qualification for the job.

Now, if someone can tie either pastor of hers to a scandal involving her or her family, that's a real pastor problem.

Even the most rabid Likudniks won't vote for a Republican ticket with her on it.

27. "This nation is a Christian nation"
Maybe this type of information will be swept under the rug by our corporate-controlled, pro-conservative media. But a Vice President who believes this will be the focus of intense scrutiny abroad. Newspapers in Europe and the Middle East will make this a major story. This will not go over well in Islamic nations and it will pose a threat to the effectiveness of foreign diplomacy. If Palin ever became president, would she be representing the secular state of the United States abroad, or would she be representing a Christian nation in her mind? I'd like to see the debate moderator at a debate ask her if she believes the United States is a Christian nation. It was suggested that Bill Maher be the debate moderator. I think he would be someone who could and would ask this kind of question.
