DNC Photo Essay, Part 1: On the Denver Streets (Dial-Up Warning)
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 11:42 PM by intheflow
(Part 1 of 2. Part 2 is here.)

I was out taking photos in Denver all week, but today is the first day I've had the time to upload and post some. I saw many threads with photos of stuff DUers saw during the week, so here are just some highlights of things I hadn't seen reported elsewhere. This thread is part one of two, the second being my photos from Invesco Field. :)

Sunday, August 24

Random downtown scenes:

Saw Tweety looking sweaty in a suit under the lights at their outdoor studio.

Recreate 68 stands off with the cops:

Monday, August 25

American Friends Service Committee's traveling exhibit commemorating our lost soldiers.

The joke's an oldie but a goodie--maximized for effect by a downtown strip club. ;)

Saw The People's Party from California at a free concert in Cuernavaca Park. They played this awesome rock/funk/rap music--so good I bought both their albums on iTunes when I got home that night. :headbang:

Wednesday, August 27

I had to work on Tuesday so I didn't get back down there until Wednesday. There were many t-shirt venders, but I bought my t from this guy, Steve Lowtwait from Boulder. Why? 1. The entire shirt was created and produced locally; and 2. Even though his shirt was the same price or less than most of the other shirts being sold, he's donating 5% of his sales to the Obama campaign. :patriot:

These folks were lined up all along the 16th St. Mall, reading the Constitution aloud.

Possibly the best official DNC t-shirt. :)

Saw John Kerry on the way back to my car. My old senator!

Some more random street scenes:

3. I was kind of disappointed I didn't see more street theater.
Others have posted a street-theater polar bear, I would have liked to see that. There were other acts I shot but didn't post: an Uncle Sam on stilts, a donkey and elephant walking around together, a PETA pig, and of course the fundie nutcases who probably weren't even aware their angst-ridden, hell-fire public religious displays shares roots with Greek theater!

7. Great to see you again, too!
My meet-up photos all came out crappy. :(

But it was amazing how there was so much stuff going on all the time--whole marches and police actions could be going on just a few blocks away, but you could miss it entirely by walking down the 16th St. Mall! Y'all come back to Denver some time when you can stay and play in the mountains!
