See you then! :hi:

If you are going to do anything about Palin, write to MTP and other talking heads and newspapers, etc.

Here's contact info here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6872152/

I have been guilty too, which is why I need to walk away. I don't think we have a strategy. We just seem to be throwing everything to the wall, trying to see what sticks. I'm gonna let the genius figure that out, while I take a break.

3. Aw, c'mon now -- Palin is news . . . big news . . .
Who would've thought McCain was so desperate? And so wacky. This exceeds everybody's wildest dreams. This is the game-changer.

6. Big news of the same things being posted over and over and over again.
It's like when a Republican dies or someone who is not liked here--DUers obsess about it for days on end and cannot seem to let it go.

8. Two observations:
1) This is still early days in the Palindrama. I think we're all looking to see if a) she falls as flat on her face as we expect, b) scandals erupt around her as they show hints of doing, and c) whether a tipping point will be reached within 48-72 hours that confirms her as disastrous a choice as she appears. Consequently, DUers are going to be all stirred up until these play out.

2) Just don't open Palinated posts; there's lots of other stuff being posted here.

10. Did this forum really need to be taken over by Palin on Friday with people saying nothing new
or repeating the same things over and over. This was not forced on us by the MSM, but done willingly by DUers themselves. There was a fantastic speech by Obama that deserved much more attention here than it got on Friday and the MSM had nothing to do with that--we did it ourselves.

12. I saw many many posts exulting in Obama's excellent speech . . .
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 10:28 PM by MrModerate
The successful stagecraft, management of the convention as a whole, etc., etc. Enough to refresh everybody's confidence in him as both a campaigner and a leader.

And let's not forget -- the stakes were high. If he screwed it up, it could sink his candidacy.

But then -- McCain blows his foot off with an incredibly bad decision!!! And you're surprised that everybody is still all atwitter?

McCain has changed the game, alright. He's jumped off the Empire State Building, and at this moment he's passing the 40th floor with a fixed smile on his face and chanting "Doing fine so far! (My friends)"

Politics isn't just issues and stage management. Sometimes it's stepping back and watching your opponent commit suicide. And this late in the campaign -- when we were all expecting a hard-fought slog to election day, taking some punches and giving some, the opposition has come out dancing the can-can in a tutu worn backwards! Of course it's taken over the forum, just as it's taken over the news cycle.

My prediction: within 4 days Palin will have self-destructed and business will settle down to "as usual" -- but with a deeply wounded McCain limping to defeat.

13. On Friday during the day I did not see many and I didn't work that day
so I was here for a good part of the day and I didn't see many Friday. I made the same comments of Friday. You know, there was only one day which was the day after Obama's great acceptance speech and that day was Friday and not 4 days from now. We want to complain about how McCain stole the news with his VP pick and then we went right along with it here at DU.

14. Sure he stole the news -- that was the intent.
But the cost to his campaign will be huge. It's typical 'Lican shortsightedness: anything to win, and governing be damned! This case verrrrrry shortsighted, since the positive bounce won't last through the RNC.

15. Nothing wrong with that--it's the way things are.
We didn't have to so cooperatively go along with the theft here, though.

20. Luckily, in the larger world of the campaign . . .
DU doesn't matter at all. I don't have access to the broadcast media over here (I could watch Fux News, but am unwilling to do so), so I don't have a feel for how hysterical the MSM is over this. Agreed that it's pushed Obama's exquisitely orchestrated convention off the front page, but at the cost of directing attention to a Republican freak show. Even with the phonypolls indicating how bright and shiny "everybody" finds Palin to be, she's still a hard-right fundy apparatchik who wants to teach creationism in science classes. Plus scandals, plus no experience, plus having done a lousy job as mayor of the tiny town, plus other scandals, etc., etc.

The media loves it -- and they're going to love tearing her to pieces in a few days, too.

5. I think that a VP candidate who wants to...
give the government total control over my uterus is a big deal.

She also happens to be totally unqualified for office.

but not about writing to MSM. The less attention we give her here in DU and anywhere else, the sooner her 15 minutes are over.
