Wassila turns out to have more people than Delaware—and it has been growing fast. (I can't get the links to work right now but it's easy to look up.) 4:00 update: oh how very embarrassing. A typo in the site I was looking at—totally wrong, by a factor of a hundred. Ouch.

Look, you brainless douche, did it ever occur to you -- without even having to look it up -- that Delaware has a whole lot more people than Bumfuck, Alaska? The population of Delaware is something like 850,000. The population of the whole state of Alaska is about 670,000. Yes, he got the decimal point wrong by two places (Wasilla has a population of about 8,000), and called it a typo. But why would anybody other than a complete dipstick ever suppose for an instant that a town nobody outside Alaska has ever heard of would have more people than Delaware? It would have to be the size of Detroit.

What this really shows us, aside from the fact that Ponnuru is a knucklehead as well as a tool, is that these Republican apologists will pounce on any "fact," no matter how absurd on its face, to "prove" whatever boneheaded point they are trying to make. And then they get caught out, like this assclown did, proving only that they are useless fucknozzles.

What webpage was he checking? Just doing a quick search for "population of Wasilla, AK" in Google, the first result is a listing on city-data.com which lists the pop. at 5469 in 2000 with an forecasted population of 9236 in 2006. Right below that is the link to Wikipedia.

Just seeing that, do you even have to look up Delaware? Jokes about Delaware being boring aside, there's no way there's fewer than 10,000 people living there!

Who in their right minds would look at a "population figure" for Wasilla, Alaska that said POPULATION 865,000 and even faintly conceive of that being reasonmably accurate. Mind you, this is a supposed SENIOR EDITOR for the National Review! A SENIOR EDITOR! And he doesn't have the slightest fucking clue about the population of Alaska (>700,000 total). He sees a number telling him that Wasilla, Alaska has 800,000 people, and he considers that accurate?!? It's fucking unbelievable.

Or, or, or, or he saw the mistake the other way. He saw a population figure for the STATE of fucking Delaware that listed it UNDER 8,500, and thought THAT was accurate! A senior editor for the fucking National Review! A guy who LIVES in Washington DC! He thinks there are less than 8,500 people in the state of Delaware! This guy is 34 years old, and writes about fucking POLITICS! How stupid would he have to be to believe the typo he says led him astray????

Even if we take his explanation at face value, he'd have to be the most bone ignorant fuckwad in political commentary. So which is it: he had no clue about the population of Alaska in even broad, ballpark terms, or he had no clue about the population of Delaware in even broad, ballpark terms?
