Re the DU topics claiming David Sirota mentioned Palin's "fake pregnancy" to Thom Hartmann
Sirota has debunked that story in his diary at Kos, in his reply to a comment on this page:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/29/17733/9261/419/579265

Look for the comment from Inky99 posted on Fri Aug 29, 2008 at 02:22:51 PM PDT, and Sirota's reply directly beneath that.

These are two of the DU topics spreading this rumor and using what Sirota allegedly said to support it:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6812872

I don't know how many other DU topics might have misreported this.

But I have to wonder what's going on what there are posts here alleging Sirota said something he didn't say, offered as confirmation for a smear that hits Palin's daughter as well as Palin.

I don't like Palin. I don't want her close to the Oval Office, but that's because of her political beliefs and her lack of experience.

But I've been trying to figure out where this smear that also targets her teenaged daughter came from.

And the claims that David Sirota had anything to do with it are clearly false, and they indicate someone is out to smear Palin in any way possible and is willing to lie about what Sirota said to help make this story more credible.

Note: I am not saying that any DUers posting about what Sirota allegedly said made this part of the story up. They might have read it elsewhere. But wherever the claim about what Sirota said originated, it was a lie, according to Sirota's own diary.

1. I don't know about the teenage daughter thing--all I know is that Palin
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 11:58 AM by wienerdoggie
is a piss-poor mother who put her unborn child and an entire flight at risk by flying eight hours while in premature labor.

4. See, I just think it would be so hard to cover up a story like that, when
so many people would be witnesses. There would be medical records, etc. Just too wacky a theory, without proof. I will say, Miss Mooseburgers did NOT look visibly pregnant, and that is weird--no characteristic fullness to the face or breasts or butt. But beyond that, it's just idle speculation.

8. if they had a teenage pregnancy to cover up there would be easier ways to do it
than to have the governor of the state fake a pregnancy. The girl could've been sent away somewhere to have the baby which could then be adopted or raised by relatives. A lot less risky than trying to pull off a phony birth in a hospital full of nurses and doctors who don't owe you a damn thing.

9. mmm I can say from personal experience without any further explanation
that I know and assisted a family who did just that in order to expedite an adoption and save the child from a violent father (who never knew his girlfriend was pregnant)

but I wouldn't want to have all of the documents scrutinized by the Enquirer.

11. but I doubt your friend was the governor of a state
with all the attendant media attention.

When Palin gave birth, it was on the front page of Alaskan newspapers. The doctor herself was quoted as saying she had to induce labor. The hospital where she gave birth was named.

There would have to be a widespread conspiracy involving dozens, if not more, people.

It's a completely wacked out story. It's right up there with Obama's fake birth certificate.

3. I think we should stay far away from this "substitute baby" story.
The more we go after it, the more desperate we seem. Could a state governor actually pull off a fraud of this seriousness? The papers at the time said she delivered at a local hospital:

If there's anything in this, it WILL come out in the next few days/weeks, without democrats salivating over it in advance.

5. I'm just now listening to yesterday's show and...
Sirota said he understood that the daughter was pregnant right now. He wasn't challenging Palin about whether the boy was hers.

6. I'm less concerned with whose baby than the idea that she wants to force babies on all of us...
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 12:08 PM by progressivebydesign
.. I mean, here is a VP pick that the evangelical baptists are now saying THEY promoted her to McCain, and she wants to make sure that every woman is forced to make the same choice she or her teen daughter has made (i understand the teen daughter is now pregnant?) THAT's the big story... She can do what she likes with her own family, and if she chooses to get on a 10 hour flight after her water broke, that's her problem... but she is poised to set women's rights back 100 years.

13. The whole preggo daughter fiction has been smear
Even after people have been corrected and pointed to the correct original photo shoot information of the now infamous "teenage girl has a little belly fat" photo that was shot in 2006. It's a waste of time and is making some of you look like deranged nutty mcnutters. Democrats will LOSE votes if undecideds see them harassing and tormenting a candidates child based on the pubescent chub around her middle.

14. Thank you hpd. I suspect the original story is from a rumor posted
on the web some 4 months ago. Someone on DU had linked to it. Thanks for setting the record straight about Siroto.
