The PUMA's were already pissed at Hillary's treatment and said they were voting McAss.

The hard core right was already in his camp.

The right-to-lifers were already there.

The idiots who still think Bush is a good President weren't going to vote for Obama.

The racists and bigots were already voting for McAss

Just who, exactly, was going to vote for Obama but will now switch simply because a light-weight former beauty queen is McAsshole's running mate?

I don't actually think a bunch of guys are going to register just because of that, but it was part of McCain's strategy. When she became governor up here it was all I heard about.

15. Then you have no idea how those people vote. Most young people are voting Obama...
And are not so shallow as to be distracted by a horrible pick just because she's attractive.

You don't give 18-30 year old males enough credit.

she brings to the ticket, demographics-wise. It's certainly not her resume, education or experience. Pro-choice women aren't going to like her overturning Roe V Wade, and the pro-life women are already probably going to vote McLoon.

32.  Sorry, but she's really not that hot.
I'm 32 years old. She's pretty for an older lady, but to be honest I doubt that anybody really under 35, let alone 18-30 really thinks of her as all that hot. She looks a bit...well...middle aged. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but its not like she's blinding any (young) males with her supermodel good looks.

The average 18-30 year old sees more attractive, younger, women in their day to day lives.

Total non-issue, as far as voting goes.

who would have made far more sense as VP, and there's a reason why they were bypassed.

37. That would be not giving credit to the 18-30 voters.
They vote because they care about the issues, the ones who would vote because the VP has a "nice rack", probably aren't the voting types anyway. I think Palin will bring very little to the ticket, and there wasn't much there to begin with except, POW POW POW.

11. You're wrong about 1 thing. Fundies are NOT on-board with McCain. Neither are pro-lifers.
My parents are christian fundamentalist whack-jobs who get all their news from Hannity and Limbaugh.

And they HATE McCain. They believe him to be pro-choice. They believe he is lying and pandering to the fundies. They absolutely REFUSE to vote for him.

Ofcourse they won't vote Obama either. They decided not to vote this year and "leave it up to God".

:eyes:

So that's 2 more fundie votes McCain can't win in Virginia...

17. The base was all ready in McCain's camp...
This adds no new demographics to his numbers. NONE.

The Fundies are all elated about this, and good for them. However, they're
missing the bigger picture. She does not appeal to Independents. She's
a Creationist and an arch conservative with familial ties to the oil
industry.

Furthermore, her views on women's issues are not appealing to Independents, who
tend to be pro-choice. Palin is against women controlling their reproductive
choices, against equal pay for equal work and against any meaningful healthcare
reform. The PUMAs were in McCain's court anyway, so there are no new women
who will vote for McCain.

Also--this delivers NO STATES to McCain. NONE. Now, Michigan, Penn, and Ohio
are totally in play. Alaska helps with nothing.

In short, a great short-term choice for the Fundies, and a superb long-term choice for the entire Democratic party.

21. Looking at conservative blogs, the answer seems to be...
...nobody really, but she has made the conservative base more energized than they had been. Not sure that's enough, but it's not completely trivial either, given how little enthusiasm they had for McMansions.

Can now get it up for her, in a different way.

That's going to sound sexist, because it is, because they are, and because that's exactly their intention. They're playing the sex card (literally), plain and simple.

31. Many right-to -lifers were going to stay home.
Also, an attractive woman might just tip the balance for some undecided white male working class voters. And she lessens the creepiness factor of the ticket that might have turned off some apolitical undecideds. Not a home run, but better than McLame would do alone. I think it's safer to assume that by turning out the base she poses at least some threat, and that personally we have to work a little harder for the campaign.
