Why I think he chose Palin
1. The Fundies: It seems obvious, and many here assert that they're already on board with McSame. I disagree. With respect, I think (until now) that conservative Christians have not been fully engaged. They are now. Even if the ticket loses, the fundies showing up in their usual robust numbers will ensure they don't endure a complete slaughter in the Senate and COngressional seats.

2. It's a splashy pick.

3. She's perceived as an outsider.

4. Conservatives love her.

5. She will attack Biden and Obama hard on abortion. She will be hard to hit back, as a mother of a Downs Syndrome child. The GOP is really looking to blunt gaine Biden might make with Catholics.

6. They are grooming her to run in 2012 if this election goes badly for them.

1. Also:
Young, as in "intergenerational ticket".

Executive experience.

More likely to be seen oozing empathy.

Female. Either slate makes history if it wins.

2. They might think that Joe Biden
will go easy on her since he is a gentleman.

4. Yep
When she ran for governor she debated against Frank Murkowski (long time Alaskan senator) in the primaries and handed him his ass. It shocked everyone up here.

3. Yes, for all those reasons and
I think he picked her because of the economy. Our state economy is in pretty good shape up here, with billions in surplus. Over the next few months every Alaskan will get their Permanent Fund Dividend checks, which are expected to be about $2,000 (we get these every year in the fall). However, this year we will get an additional $1,200 "energy rebate" from the state.

Gov. Sarah Palin is almost certain to sign the bill to pay Alaskans the rebate.

It was Palin, after all, who last month proposed that lawmakers pay out a $1,200 resource rebate as a way for the state to share some of its multibillion-dollar oil revenue surplus with Alaska residents.
