"America, we are better than these last 8 years..."
If Obama really puts his trademark passion into that line, that could be an incredible moment. It's a great line. All depends on if he delivers it in a normal speaking voice or raises it and gets the emotion flowing while he says it. I hope he chooses the latter.

1. Is there any doubt?
It's his nomination speech, a historic landmark achievement - he's bringing his "A" game tonight!

2. Well, I mean...
the line itself is great in either context. The fact is that it is THE TRUTH. You can deliver it without passion because it is the truth and there's nothing wrong with speaking the truth in a professorial manner. I hope he chooses the passionate manner because THAT is how he can make an impact on all those people out there who are thinking McCain is going to be significantly different from Bush.

7. Small Quibble.
Wouldn't it be better to say something like "America, we can do better than these last 8 years." Or "America, we deserve better than we have gotten these last 8 years."

The small quibble is about separating criticism of Bush, McCain, and the repugnants from criticism of America. After all America is larger than it's broken, dysfunctional republican dominated government.

Again, it's just a small quibble not a deep criticism. But you know the repugnants and how good they are at taking words and twisting them.
