Biden: We cannot win without Pennsylvania
DENVER - Vice presidential candidate Joe Biden told Pennsylvania delegates Thursday that running mate Barack Obama can't win the White House without the Keystone State.

"This is not hyperbole: We cannot win without Pennsylvania," Biden said at a breakfast.

Polling in Pennsylvania shows the race between Obama and McCain close. A Quinnipiac University poll conducted last week showed Obama with a 7 percentage point lead over McCain, but neither reached more than 50 percent. Obama's 49 percent support is likely to increase after a week of nonstop coverage of the Democratic National Convention here.

"You're going to have all the resources this campaign has available. That's the good news," Biden said. "The bad news: you're going to have a whole helluva lot of me because I'm coming home."

3. The PA papers I saw this morning all made sure to mention Biden was local native.
I especially loved this one from the Lehigh Valley, a key swing area in PA.

"Joe Biden is one of us"

8. Biden's birth place HAD to have played a role in his selection
Rendell is too much a loose cannon and Casey is just as new as Obama AND pro-life, so Obama takes the next best choice: a senator from a neighboring state who happened to have been born in PA. Considering PA has only had two presidents with ties to the state (Buchanan and Eisenhower) Pennsylvanians will jump at the chance to vote for one of their own. Just look at how much love the state has for the Andretti racing family and you see the loyalty Pennsylvanians have towards native heros.

5. PA went for Kerry in 2004 and Gore in 2000
So IMHO, they really need to take this state out of the "battleground" category. Ironically, in presidential election years, a 40% turnout is considered massive, and in this state, the population of the blue cities continually throw this state to the Democrats. And for the first time, there are more registered Democrats here than repukes so I can't really see some sudden crossover vote to put McLame in. Some of these repuke folks may just sit home and not vote (which is fine with me).

7. The corporate whores want to make PA

into a toss-up, when in fact it's pretty reliably Democratic in Presidential elections. The chimp showed up several times in the Scranton-Wilkes Barre area in 04 and my uncle, who lives there ,was convinced they were bussing in people from elsewhere to fill the venues because the chimp was so unpopular. PA will go for Obama/Biden.
