Concern troll at Politico...." Dems fear Invesco effect"
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 10:19 PM by GreenPartyVoter
this rates an "oh puh-lease!!" Loved Dennis K's comment though!

DENVER - Senior Democratic officials are expressing serious concerns about the political risks posed by Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium Thursday evening.

From the elaborate stagecraft to the teeming crowd of 80,000 cheering partisans, the vagaries of the weather to the unpredictable audience reaction, the optics surrounding the stadium event have heightened worries that the Obama campaign is engaging in a high-risk endeavor in an uncontrollable environment.

A common concern: that the stadium appearance plays against Obama’s convention goal of lowering his star wattage and connecting with average Americans and that it gives Republicans a chance to drive home their message that the Democratic nominee is a narcissistic celebrity candidate.

“We already know he is a rock star, we already know he can bring 85,000 people together in a stadium. He has done it multiple times. He needs to talk to people who haven’t made up their minds yet,” said Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen.

2. In a a way I have some concerns also
Nothing to do with the "set" because it would be the same shit they use inside.

I worry more about security with 80,000 people.

5. Remember you have to get tickets also
and they are hard to get so it will be Dems. Can you imagine a few random hecklers? They'd get their asses kicked all over the mile high stadium.

25. Um, he's a Democratic governor who knows a lot more
about winning over swing voters than most people in the Democratic party.

7. Pretty much, yeah. It shows up on Yahoo though, so a lot more people see it
than if it was just its own little place on the web.

can't. What on earth are they gonna use but the same old retreads? POW and maverick. And 9/11 if Giuliani (sp) speaks.

9/11, POW, terra terra terra!

They don't have anyone that comes CLOSE in terms of personality or effectiveness (in terms of speechmaking) to what we have.

10. So long as the Secret Service doesn't do to him what they did in Dallas, he'll be fine.
It wouldn't hurt to counter the "superstar" argument. It's not hard either. "Don't you want a president that's popular after 8 years of George Bush? Or would you like to elect more of the McSame?"

14. This is THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE and is a historic moment.
What is wrong with people? I wish they'd stop projecting and realize that Obama is doing this so his grassroots base can have the chance to bask in their moment. The narcissists and old white guy establishment are the ones who seem to be so offended by this.

18. If Obama looks like a "celebrity candidate"
How is that his fault. I mean what is he supposed to do give dull speeches and talk with shoulders down on the podium like he is bored out of his mind. I mean it sounds like sour grapes to me. Maybe if people could tolerate the sight or sound of John McCain then Obama wouldn't seem ss much like a rock star.

20. This sounds odd but I would love a major downpour
I still remmeber back a few superbowls ago Prince's halftime show was in the middle of a major rainstorm. But there was something about that rainstorm that just enhanced the concert with Prince jamming his heart out while being totally drenched.

I could see the same thing here with Obama and for some reason I think he would hit a home run even if it was a major storm out.

Why would I fear a speech on a stage that resembles the birth place of Democracy?

28. A valid concern, but...

like the disunity story which fizzled out after today, hopefully they will pull through tomorrow without a hitch. I was surprised when the Obama campaign didn't answer back on the "Greek temple" crap but my guess is that when tomorrow rolls around it will look like a modest backdrop in the style of Washington DC architecture, and everyone who harped on it (ie. Joe Scarborough) will look like idiots for making it an issue.

Any time you have someone address a large group of people, whether a convention hall or a stadium... heck, any time a candidate goes in front of a CAMERA, it's possible they could say or do something that doesn't play well. We just have to hope for the best. The Obama campaign has been pretty consistently right so far, even when people were questioning their judgment, so I have faith they are making the right decisions.

29. gee, those repukes get their message out fast
I heard some moran repuke blogger on NPR saying this same thing "oh, this isn't going to help him- it just makes him seem more like a rock star. he won't get any undecided voters like that."

really? than why are you so concerned, repuke? Jealousy isn't attractive in a 72-- 73 year old georgie III. How hard can I laugh before I choke on something?
