Very interesting * quote in AP this morning
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 08:22 AM by Perky
"There's a lot of my friends who come and bass-fish with me. They don't say it out loud, I know they're thinking it: Why?" Bush said. "And the answer is because the stakes are high. Because there is more work to be done to make the world a freer and more peaceful place. It is essential that America lead in the 21st century in order to defeat the ideologues who use terror as a weapon, in order to secure the homeland, but also in order to spread liberty. I know what needs to be done, I see clearly where we need to go and I want to spend four years leading toward that goal. And I believe the American people will give me that opportunity," he said.

1. he said the scariest thing I've ever heard him say yesterday
He said something to the effect of: "We will not let them get elected."

Not, "we will beat them." Not, "we're going to get more votes than them."

"We will not let them get elected."

:scared:

16. And he banged the podium wildly
like every dictator in the past.

How does going bass fishing address the "more work to be done" part? The job doesn't include catching dinner, does it?

21. Scary shit, man
I saw this quote yesterday and it made my blood run cold:

"...Because there is more work to be done to make the world a freer and more peaceful place.

I wonder what "work" he plans on doing next? Syria? Iran? His 'war is peace' crap is truly Orwellian. I wonder how many more people he's planning on slaughtering in his second term.

If you have draft-age children - be afraid, be very afraid.

22. I agree - how he can be both is baffling but he is
Extremely stupid and cunning at the same time. Although I wonder if his cunning comes from those around him. Or the evil within him. Either way...

5. Just SOS
More war. And then some war. And then more war after that. All of which he'll screw up, we'll lose 100,000s+ soldiers, all permanently drafted until death, our poverty rate will go thru the roof (34 million now is bad enough!) and we'll be too poor to fight back against the rich war machine. And did I mention a lot of dead?

And you thought his first term was a nightmare
What Bush has planned for America if he wins.
- - - - - - - - - - - -
By Charles Tiefer

Aug. 25, 2004 | .... Under Bush's slogan of an "ownership society," the Republicans intend a long-term effort, using changes in Medicare, Social Security and taxes to pit better-off and worse-off Democrats against each other, offering all-but-irresistible incentives for some to desert the others -- and any progressive national coalition. .... A second-term Bush agenda will constantly impale Democrats on the dilemma of abandoning their poorer, sicker, older and minority groups, or seeing their better-off, healthier and younger members lured off to the other party. If it sounds like a political nightmare for the Democrats, that's because that's what it is planned to be. ....

11. Same with the Majority of the Hispanic Population
It's passive-aggression in response to being ignored. A Hispanic delegate to the Boston convention from Texas said the whole Texas delegation was put up in a hotel way out of town (maybe that might be understandable), and NOBODY from the national party visited with this STATE delegation, just a couple of state figures from the '70s.

I "get" the economics of writing off states that are considered to be totally Red, but it certainly takes the wind out of inspiring people to try.

13. I think it's already happening.
When we sold our soul to the company store we lost our base. I don't even think this is a Repuke plan. It's the effect of unlimited corporate money corrupting our political system. But because we are a 2 party system I still have to vote Democrat. There's no comparison in terms of decency between the Democratic and Puke parties.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=716&e=1&u=/ap/20040827/ap_on_bi_ge/greenspan

JACKSON, Wyo. - Federal Reserve (news - web sites) Chairman Alan Greenspan (news - web sites) said Friday that the country will face "abrupt and painful" choices if Congress does not move quickly to trim the Social Security (news - web sites) and Medicare benefits that have been promised to the baby boom generation.

Returning to a politically explosive issue that he has addressed a number of times this year, Greenspan said that it was wrong for the government to hold out the promise of more retirement benefits than it is capable of providing.

He said this issue was particularly critical given the impending retirement of 77 million baby boomers born in the two decades after World War II.

"As a nation, we owe it to our retirees to promise only the benefits that can be delivered," Greenspan said in opening remarks to a two-day conference sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City on the challenges posed by aging populations.

20. Quit blaming the parties alone.
The American people are getting what they're asking for. 49% of the fricking electorate didn't vote in the last election. The people choose the politicians; if they're too lazy to learn what's going on around them, they deserve to be enslaved.

94+% of eligible voters did so in the recent Venezuela recall election. And the people won out over the corporate.

It may well take a Depression to reboot the American psyche.

14. Yep.
The people of the USSR thought they had it good...until they caught an outside glimpse of the world.

Until then, they didn't realize just how poverty-stricken and isolated they were.

Our middle class is shrinking like mad, our poverty level is up to 34 million out of 198 million. Our jobs are immigrating. The COLA is up, inflation is up, our pay is dropping.

And the rich are enjoying tax refunds of $100,000s. And they can avoid taxes even easier now ta to bush.

And they don't have to worry about silly things like environmental or safety laws.

And the overtime you work they don't have to pay you for.

And Asscroft wants to shut down the internet so it's US-only that we can get, like the telly is, except without the satt. option.

23. Iran appears to be the logical next place ... the Pentagon spy story
of today, if verified, indicates the neocons in the Pentagon were sharing OUR plans re: Iran with this spy from Israel ... nothing new in terms of what they're planning with impunity, the ONLY news is that the LIGHT OF DAY will hopefully shine into this PNACer abyss and be exposed BEFORE the election ...

thanks for posting this, perky ... understanding this heads-up is vital
