Maybe we would all be better off if people just had to get news on their own, and traditional media outlets were dissolved.

1. and how would you accomplish "dissolving" the media?
Ban newspapers? Shut down all of the television stations? SHoot satellites out of the sky?

4. newspapers have licenses?

You suggested dissolving the traditional media and newspapers are as traditional a media outlet as there is.

I guess you meant only to dissolve the electronic media. I see. But not the internet -- so video delivered over the Internet by CNN, NBC, etc. would be okay. Which, of course, already is capable of being displayed on your tv.

Would only entities that want to present news have to pay for spectrum? Would there still be electronic entertainment? Radio, television etc?

And to the extent you put a big price on spectrum, who do you think is going to end up with it? Small progressive businesses or big corporations? Wireless spectrum is being auctioned for billions and its going to large entities. In the future that wireless spectrum could well take the place of the broadcast spectrum for delivering video content. What then?

5. Not dissolved
Just brought in line. No more of this monopoly jazz and time to start yanking some licenses.

6. The worst damage done to Obama was sent out by e-mail.
Long ago, the Right Wing, feeling paranoid about the "liberal media" began finding other methods to creach the public, e.g., direct mail, e-mail lists, and most effective of all, right wing talk radio.

Obama's camp is making great strides in using the Internet, Instant Messaging, etc. But we definitely need to do more to find other avenues to circumvent the MSM.
