What's up with the fucking train on MSNBC
Behind KO and Tweety is this locamotive that has been blowing its horn all night when Keith and Tweety talk. It is hysterical.

3. But it is the same engine...looks historic.
Edited on Tue Aug-26-08 10:35 PM by maseman
Plus it is an old steam whistle, not the modern train horn.

7.  Amtrak Runs Through Denver
Now I don't now if CNN has people outside their prime location because they are right next to the Pepsi Ctr. MSNBC on the other hand set up shop outside our beautiful Union Station, so people could watch and where trains happen to run.

10. I love Union Station. Took a train from here to there once and it was great fun.
It looks especially nice all lit up for the convention with the red and blue lights.

11. Some details on the locomotive.
I saw this locomotive in person yesterday, and saw it up close last summer.

It's none other than Union Pacific Steam Locomotive No. 844.

And a fine machine it is - the drive wheels are 80 inches tall - which is just a number when I write it here, but in person, they're fucking gigantic. It's quite a sight to see a live steam locomotive in person, to feel the heat from the boiler and firebox, to see steam venting, to see this machine behaving almost like a living thing.

14. Iconic Building
Great backdrop - a little noisy, OMG, how will we survive?

What a bunch of complainers.

15. I wasn't complaining
I thought it was hysterical. I have a long broadcasting background and love to see when the well-oiled machine gets a sqweaky wheel. That thing seems to blow on cue which is so funny.

I am sure it is a great historical sight.

16. Union Pacific is owned by really nasty Republican Oligarchs

That train is owned by them.
I wonder if their bosses have anything to do with it? That normally
doesn't happen in Denver.

18. It's the most stupid thing I've ever seen
Having a live broadcast in the wind in front of a train station that has a train whistle blowing at random intervals.
Totally unprofessional.
As someone said yesterday, they're really missing Tim Russert as a team leader at NBC - from the frequent announcer meltdowns to piss-poor advance location managers.
