Bush just may have gave the Democrats a gift
Bush plans to exploit the deaths of 3000 citizens by watching part of the convention from a fire station. Thank you George I hope you pull this off, because this will show everyone how shallow you are.

22. That fire station will be cherry picked and set up only with loyalists.
They may set up one to pretend he's for Kerry and by the end of the night they'll have him switched to Bush right in front of the cameras.

That is how Rove works friends. He and Bush are both experts in setting up photo ops. Bush set up alot of his daddy's photo ops.

I mean, come on. This will work really well for him. I don't mean to flame you here, but if you think that any of this will make Bush look like the stupid, shallow idiot he is then you are dreaming. The fucking stupid public will eat this shit up.

18. A certain element of the public will support this. . .
and another element will decry it. We can only hope its net effect is to distance him from the support of the "undecideds".

23. Makes sense...We've seen him pull off cheesier stunts
And his loyalists eat it up with a spoon.

Finding an NY fire station that's willing to be exploited is a true political victory....or more likely, smoke and mirrors

31. I agree. These people will eat it up. Read "What's the Matter
with Kansas?" to see just how this works. Cloying emotionalism and the big lie work every time, even when whole states go down the tubes due to the resulting policies.

7. strange - you would think the NYFD might hose him down and
off the premises. I wonder how they're handling bullet proofing a fire station - we've heard how he's getting his own special stage for his speech.

35. When the protesters see him at the fire station

it will be Katie Bar The Door Time.

But, of course,it will be pre recorded and oaths taken and all the little pretend happy fire people sitting around...happy,happy.

What a huge insult this is to the people of New York.

9. I think his big mistake ...
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 03:08 PM by Drifter
will be "Only being in NY for a few hours".

He is expected to land, perform his acceptance speech, and leave.

That is pretty much a slap in the face (in my opinion). He is not staying, because he doesn't want to appear as though he is being protested by more than half the country (in a single city).

There isn't a Republican out there who isn't thinking ... "Shit, we shoulda had the convention in Utah"

Cheers
Drifter

10. some folks will
eat this up with a spoon. This is a clever move. Our best defense will be the protests. Let America see how much the ordinary folks HATE the Bushies. Then photo ops with firemen and cops will not change that. We must make sure the protests are large and get lots of attention.

17. Actually just two posts (I guess
this will be the third). I am not really someone who has ever protested in my life, but I very much hate the Bushies and want to deep six them very much. I honestly believe that the demonstrations will make them look very bad in the eyes of regular folks at home. Now I am not wanting anyone to get hurt or anything like that, but I do want people to get lots of attention to the fact that we want the Bushies to go. This is our best chance of getting some attention during the convention. So I support and encourage it. Free speech is a great right. And I remember the 60's when free speech and demonstrations did change things and make a big difference in opinions. So I say go for it.

Straight from the NYFD chief. (Paraphrased - so I guess not straight)

Also Ahnold will be doing the same.

19. Who knows...I would say the most likely scenario would be...
all the "librul" media whores would be drooling to kiss the rings of his Royal Chimpiness, and would be trying to top each other in making the "man" into a modern day Hercules. I can imagine fishin stories coming out of this that would make the Paul Bunyan myth pale in comparison. Like how Shrub singlehandedly cleaned up the WTC site with one deft swing of his mighty bat. Or how he thwarted, singlehandedly, an attack of the killer Clenis on some national monument.

40. How it will work
1. Karl Rove will choose a nice picturesque firehouse that has a really massive electrical system. Preference will be given to any house whose September 2001 staff was all squished in the WTC collapse; this will give Dubya a chance to wax poetic about his brave leadership in providing funding to our overworked heroes. (The next night Bush will rail about how government is the problem--leading many to ask themselves, "don't soldiers, police officers and firefighters work for the government?")

2. He will get the Secret Service to order the New York Fire Department to send the firefighters who work at the firehouse to a training session somewhere.

3. All of the firefighters save one will be replaced with actors because an actor in a firefighter's duty uniform and a real firefighter look a lot alike. A fire engine driver loyal to Bush who enjoys acting at the community theatre will be imported from any red state and asked to assume a Brooklyn accent for the duration of Bush's stay--this will come in important when Bush makes a big photo op of having the driver to point out the important features of his fire engine or asking how real firemen do their jobs. (Hopefully the cameras will continue to run when Bush asks to ring the bell or pet the Dalmation.)

This will solve many problems, chief among them being the fact that real New York City firefighters generally hate Mr. Bush.

the people who would vote for him anyway. The swing voters, what there are left of them, will view it with suspicion. We'll lose a few, gain a few, depending on how it's publicized. * needs to walk a very fine line here, especially if the convention is total Kerry bashing; after the ham-handed Swifties, Kerry bashing may not be all they thought it would be. Again, the Base will love it but he needs more than his base to win.
