Please help with this email!
I checked Snopes and can't find it.

My neighbor sent it to me. I've been trying VERY hard not to argue with her, as I'll have to live next to her for several years and would like to keep it friendly. I have repeatedly asked her not to send this kind of email to me and I always answer back with a link to Snopes when I can find it there.

Here is the text:
=====

This is pathetic

THE EXECUTIVE
SUMMARY

John McCain

   U.S. Navy    22 years

          U.S.Senate  26 years

Barrack Obama

    Military      0

    U.S. Senate    143 days

Just think how great a professional of any kind you could
be with only 143 days of experience!!!
People want change so badly? . . . . maybe we should
lower the experience requirement for doctors,
lawyers, airline pilots, etc. This would cause some
change!

Obama's 143 Days of Senate Experience

Just how
much Senate experience does Barack Obama
have in terms of actual work days?
Not much.

From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a
United States Senator, to the time he announced he was forming
a Presidential exploratory Committee, he logged 143 days
of experience in the Senate.

That's how many days the Senate was actually in
sessionand working.

The one single Senate committee that he
headed nevereven met -- once.

After 143 days of work experience,
Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the
Free World, and fill the shoes of Abraham Lincoln, FDR,
JFK and Ronald Reagan.

Think about it.......143 days -- 20.4 weeks -- 4.7 months
...

Our children spend more time in pre-school getting
ready for kindergarten.
We live with the consequences of our choices.

1. WTF? Do they not know how to count? Barack's had 4 years as a Senator.
Edited on Mon Aug-25-08 09:45 AM by eshfemme
How the fuck does 4 years translate to 143 days? Also, they bring up Abraham Lincoln who had even LESS experience as Barack Obama, which just highlights your neighbor's stupidity. Plus, Lincoln never had any military experience so isn't it counterproductive to your neighbor's point?

Secondly, what was the experience that John McCain had in the Navy? He fucking graduated in the 5th to last place from the Naval Academy and shouldn't have even qualified to be a pilot but his being a part of a Naval family with an Admiral father and grandfather meant that he got that job over much more qualified applicants. And instead of treasuring that, he went and crashed 5 planes. It was only the luck of the US government that he got captured before he crashed even more planes and thus, waste more taxpayer dollars.

Also, military experience tends to make either hawks or doves-- it's the military doves we want because they realize the price of war and don't enter it lightly. However, the hawks are all too eager to enter into war to capture some little bit of that glorious heyday they are nostalgic for and in their selfishness to recapture their youth, they will drag the country down with them. Guess what John McCain is?

Seriously, it's sad that I can think all of this up off the top of my head. The Republicans seriously need to come out with some more intelligent arguments. It's boring to be able to refute them using just 0.00000001% of my brainpower.

4. She appears to be a die-hard Republican
and freely distributes these emails to everyone on her list. When I reply with a Snopes link, she writes back something like, "Oh, good! That's a relief!" ... which I already know is disingenuous of her. I

It's disturbing that she continues to send them to me after I've asked her not to.

Thanks. :hi:

That is the very reason I shared it. Go git 'em!

WHO IS BARACK OBAMA?

There are many things people do not know about BARACK OBAMA. It is every American’s duty to read this message and pass it along to all of their friends and loved ones.

Barack Obama wears a FLAG PIN at all times. Even in the shower. Click here!

Barack Obama says the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE every time he sees an American flag. He also ends every sentence by saying, “WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.” http://neighbors.denverpost.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=9718155&start=40&st=0&sk=t&sd=a#p244233">Click here for video of Obama quietly mouthing the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE in his sleep.

A tape exists of Michelle Obama saying the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE at a conference on PATRIOTISM.

Every weekend, Barack and Michelle take their daughters HUNTING.

Barack Obama is a PATRIOTIC AMERICAN. He has one HAND over his HEART at all times. He occasionally switches when one arm gets tired, which is almost never because he is STRONG.

Barack Obama has the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE tattooed on his stomach. It’s upside-down, so he can read it while doing sit-ups.

There’s only one artist on Barack Obama’s iPod: FRANCIS SCOTT KEY.

Barack Obama is a DEVOUT CHRISTIAN. His favorite book is the BIBLE, which he has memorized. His name means HE WHO LOVES JESUS in the ancient language of Aramaic. He is PROUD that Jesus was an American.

Barack Obama goes to church every morning. He goes to church every afternoon. He goes to church every evening. He is IN CHURCH RIGHT NOW!!!

Barack Obama’s new airplane includes a conference room, a kitchen, and a MEGACHURCH.

Barack Obama’s skin is the color of AMERICAN SOIL.

Barack Obama buys AMERICAN STUFF. He owns a FORD, a BASEBALL TEAM, and a COMPUTER HE BUILT HIMSELF FROM AMERICAN PARTS. He travels mostly by FORKLIFT.

Barack Obama says that “Americans cling to GUNS and RELIGION because they are AWESOME.”

6. If it were just me,
I would agree with you. However, my husband wants to get along with them. We've tried very hard not to talk about politics because it's clear they want to keep their heads in the sand. We keep hoping we'll find SOMETHING in common with them. And maybe we can someday change their minds? That's a long shot, I know.

9. i applaud you wanting to be nice
but these people will never change. does she give you any idication she is willing to listen to reason? I am betting no.

let your husband be friends with them, I personally would tell her I wanted nothing to do with them.

Short anecdote: I am a gay man who was married to a woman for 15 years. My ex and i are still very friendly. She lives in a small condo comunity and I was visiting last summer (we have joint custody of our son and i was dropping him off after a weekend together). So they were having some sort of picnic and I stayed to socialize with some of them. there is one couple that is rabidly right-wing and obnoxius about it. So the subject of gay teachers came up. most there know about me and were wondering what I was going to say/do. The woman GOPer said she "did not want gay teachers pushing the gay-agenda to students" . So I could not hold back. I asked if she knew any gays and she said not that I know of. So i told her "Well June, I am gay, and maybe I am not a very good gay because I have no idea what the gay agenda is? maybe since you dont want it taught in school, you can tell me what it is" She was shocked and said she did not want teachers recruiting students to be gay, but "I am sure you're not that kind of gay person" but most are!

Bottom line they are ignorant and unwilling to change. And when confronted by their ignorance they just change the subject

peace

I'm not exactly friends with her, but the guys do get along and manage to avoid such discussions. People are so stupid. Yeah, you can recruit students to be gay, just like you can recruit them to be left-handed, I suppose. :eyes:

You are so right. If people don't want to learn, they simply won't.

10. If I were you I'd just needle her gently all the time.
Find anything you can to do this. Do it with a smile. Bring up Abe Lincoln's lack of experience with a "That turned out pretty well for this country, don't you think?" and smile patronizingly. Or bring up McCain's lack of interest in the economy and cite the accomplishments of Clinton's economic policies and say "Wasn't that wonderful that we had the LARGEST surplus in this country's history when he left office?" (Smile). Or whatever. Use a bit of sarcasm each time but not so much that she could get mad. If she does get mad act surprised and say "I'm so sorry that you seem to be so UPSET about this issue!" Do that in your best "my goodness!" voice. If you have a humorous barb about EVERYTHING political that she brings up, she'll soon stop bringing up politics.

I have had to do this with my husband's sister and her awful spouse so I've gotten pretty good at it!

Good luck. Just don't back down!

We don't normally talk politics because I KNOW we disagree. I'll have to take up a collection for that privacy fence. It's a pretty long stretch. For now, they don't live here -- they own both houses just north of us and are planning on retiring there (and selling their THIRD house in the process). They come to visit several times per year and I'm actually dreading the time when they come to live full-time.

Thank you, I will do that. Daughter and son-in-law are in the Air Force. Grandpa is watching their son now since they are both away.

21. Clarify
The number of days in session does not mean that is the sum total of his experience as a senator. How about all the meetings he does outside of that? Or all the reading and listening and decision-making on policy issues? Days in session is an artificial number. I'm an attorney -- should I be judged by my 10 years of practicing, or by the number of days I've actually been in a courtroom?
