Tweety's BIG NUMBER - $100,000 to $150,000
The estimated net worth of Joe Biden after all the mortgages and the assets are taken into account.

Biden is a regular Joe.

5. How can that be right?
He's been in the Senate for 35 years making decent money. He doesn't have to own 2 homes because he can commute to and from DC. I have to call bullshit here unless a link can be provided to substantiate this claim.

he made when he first took office. I don't know enough about investment types to get the terminology right, but he doesn't directly own stock in private companies, just money-market type funds. I'll try to find the info about that.

on edit - for 2006

I think there are some former senators in the rankings which is why there are >100

where people were pontificating about his financial fortune. He's not "poor" by any means, but is a heck of a lot closer to the rest of us than most politicians.

on edit - isn't it amazing the graph scale is $Millions?

9. Yeah, 100-150k isn't a big deal even to me
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 07:00 PM by Naturyl
And I am well known (and disliked by some) in certain communities for holding anybody with money over the fire.

100-150k net worth with most of tied up in various ways is not rich or wealthy, even to me.

10. At $50/hour (McCain's going rate for lettuce picking) ...
... Biden would be working an average of 52 hours/week, no vacation. Impressive work ethic.

11. I read somewhere he was actually 300k in debt.
we'll get to the bottom of it-- but either way, he doesn't take money from lobbyists (what???) and he refuses to buy stocks (individual ones) which could sway his opinions when voting.

Dear me. Sounds like the integrity alarm is ringing.

Lately everyone has been going on about how all politicians are rich -- they aren't, and he's a good example of it. They make a decent salary, no doubt, but it's a working person's salary. That is, before bribes, lobbyists, insider stock info, etc beef up their portfolios. Or, hey, owning a few oil wells like McCain's daddy did...if only he could find them.

I hate it when I lose my oil well keys.
