Always remember; This election won't be won or lost on "Hardball"
This election won't be won or lost on Scarborough Country, or Countdown, or Hannity and Colmes, or The Daily Show.

Those show have a miniscule following, compared to the entire voting population.

This election will be won or lost on in your town. In your precinct. On your block. At your neighbors house.

Reach out. Talk to people you know. Talk to people you don't know. Volunteer, get a voters list, and get out there and knock on doors.

We can do it!

2. Why does everyone...
Get upset when Tweety, Kerrey, McCain or anyone else who has run his mouth before, does it again?

Get over it. Stop looking for White Knights.

4. A waste of energy to fret over the media for sure
Learn the issues. Kerry has a great platform and message. Don't rely on the media to spread the word. Get out and talk to people face to face.

5. Stop looking for White Knights AND...
...stop looking for the Devil everywhere.

Just because some dipshit on TV says something you don't agree with, or that might be damaging to Kerry or might be a positive for Bush, doesn't make him (or her) Satan.

7. Cable News (if you can call it that) got this SwiftBoat thing rolling.
I wouldn't under estimate their "influence" The SVB Liars spent very little on ads, but because of Matthews, Scarborough etc... they got their moneys worth and the liars made it into the major media. The ads have had an impact in recent polls as well.

I think we need to be on top of the cable news channels because they help set the tone? :hi:

9. The Swift Boat thing is going to crash and burn
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 11:28 PM by xray s
If we can't make the case to our neighbors that the economy and a total disaster in Iraq doesn't mean more than a bunch of provable lies about Kerry's war record, we will lose.

But I think we can win. It should be an easy sell.

We don't need to wait for a perfect Kerry response, or a perfect ad campaign.

We can do it ourselves.

8. Don't kidtyourself. The media sets the agenda
I agree that personal politiking is important.

But the media sets the agendas about what does get covered and what gets ignored. And how people perceive candidates. The media is the megaphone for the partisans. And they slam the same simplistic messages home to people.

Even the cable shit gives legs to things. Swift Boats a prime example. It should have been a one-day wonder, but they hammered away relentlessly.

It sucks, but it's reality here in 1984, er, 2004.

11. People are very pissed off at the media
We should exploit that too. If you talk to the average guy in the street about how the media has its journalistic head up its ass, you will get a lot of agreement. Pick the topic; the economy, 9/11, Iraq, everyone knows we are not getting the whole story.

That is our opening to discuss the issues.

12. both are non-issues in most voters minds
they are worried about the economy and their kids getting drafted.

The media can't change that.

15. times are different today

In 2000 we were at peace, and had a booming economy. People were not focused, so trivial nonsense ruled the day. Even so, Gore won the popular vote in spite of some mistakes he made, IMHO. He didn't engage the way Kerry is engaging now until very late in the race.

Today people are focused like a laser beam. Look at the crappy ratings of these "influencial" talking head shows. If people cared what they had to say they would tune in. Poeple are hungry for some real info and they are not getting it on the TV.

We have to deliver the message. In our neighborhoods, schools, chuches, workplaces. Kerry's job is to keep the attack dogs at bay as best he can, and then put Bush away in the debates, when there will be a real opportunity to move the numbers in a solid way.
