Any of the VP-candidates get a Secret Service detail yet?
That's what I'd be watching for if I were still in the journalism business. I assume whoever Obama names will be immediately assigned a Secret Service detail. I'd check around the neighborhood for unmarked cars with federal government license plates.
1. I read that one of the VP nominees didn't get their secret service
detail until after it was announced. I don't remember if it was because they were trying to keep it secret or not, but the VP candidate was without Secret Service protection for about 30 minutes.
2. John Edwards didn't get Secret Service protection in 2004...
... until the day after the announcement, when he joined Kerry on a midwestern "Reveal" tour. I've heard a few reporters mention this, so I guess they're not looking to lack of Secret Service presence as any kind of indication.
3. Per a tip, Biden's staff has received a S.S. Briefing
Per a "direct report" from people on the hill (i.e., a report from acquaintances who are there often), Biden's staff received a briefing earlier this week.
