The Dean Campaign printed up my newspaper idea for all of Iowa!
DWW Consulting Strikes Again! (my big Monday announcement)

Wow! "The Dean Times"!

It's blanketing the whole state and the Iowans for Dean office just told me the voters love it and it's a "big success". The voters were "happy" to get it and said "there's so much information in here I didn't know". It's chock full of information on the issues, great pictures of Dean and supporters, the caucus process myths and testimonials from Iowans! Anyone or volunteers in Iowa seen it yet???

We just took back the media! At least in Iowa for 2 weeks in Democratic households.

It's an 8-page two-color tabloid-size newspaper--and most of the articles are from Howard Dean himself (his speeches really) and some great staff writers. There was just one little stab at Gephardt's health care plan and the usual stuff about the IWR vote in the Gore Endorses Dean article. Otherwise, it's all good ideas and the truth about Bush.

Thousands of volunteers handed it out this weekend. Next Weekend too.

This really is a campaign that listens to the grassroots. I called the idea into Des Moines, sent them a campaign newspaper I made on the county level and the Iowa Director said GO.

Having your own paper puts all the issues in one place and people read every word--whereas they throw out brochures and glossy lit. People read it and even save it. And a campaign newspaper neutralizes all the bull about Dean they see in their own papers and on TV and tells the truth about Bush and Cheney at the same time!

The Dean Times really makes you feel you can belong to a wonderful "Community" of reform-minded Democrats. It goes beyond the usual lit in that it helps build community--and that's a major part of the whole Dean campaign.

The odds against Mr. Gephardt and Kerry just grew longer, I think. I have a PDF but don't have a place to post it. Any ideas? Then we could all look at it!

Ask me anything.

NEED A BUSHECTOMY? CALL DR. DEAN!!

1. Great work!!!!
Remeber my message? Loved the idea than and still do....

The Dean campaign has a media center that puts out posters, flyers and such, you ahould see if the template of your newspaper can be put up there...with instructions about what to include, how to print it, advice on getting it out, etc....

This is something we have to keep up through the general election....

Well done!

2. I live in Iowa
and don't recall getting one. And I even went to a Dean fundraiser last night. Helluva band btw. Anyway, I suppose if I really want one, I'll just go downtown and get one at Dean HQ. Congrats to you!

3. Way To Go!
It's a great idea.

One question: Did you submit it as a professional consultant or as a regular guy?

9. I told them about the county campaign I consulted
where we did a paper and went from 25-8 Republican to 17-16 Republican in the County Legislature. We figured the paper won us an extra 5 seats!

Then I sent that paper to them and they gave it to the director.

They didn't care about the consultant deal, they just latched onto the idea and ran with it.

150,000 copies worth!

7. Is rush, alternative media?
I just rode home from the Des Moines debate and I came across Rush Limbaugh. He was having a good time talking about the sort of stuff Dean would never put in his paper. Being a KPFA listener, it was interesting to think that Rush was "alternative media."

25. Was Rush really talking about Dean's paper?
Was that my paper idea? Rush was at the debate, right? The Dean Times would have been there...

It's a fantastic piece, DWW! Absolutely wonderful, and eminently readable. I'm SO proud to know that I (sorta, almost) know the originator of the idea. Kudos!

15. I handed tons of these out on Saturday!
You came up with that?? It's so excellent, and I must say, it rolls up nicely and fits in the space between the door jamb and the doorknob. I left it at lots of doors and handed it to a bunch of people, too.

Great idea! Don't you love how this campaign listens?

17. Yup, no DWW, no Dean Times. Did any voter say anything about it?
Also get yourself a shoulder bag they can fit into. A lot of them are heavy to lug around without that!

It was nice to have something that wasn't just another glossy brochure.

Also nice to have space to write a note to people who weren't home.

Register weekly. We're tied for biggest circulation in the state!

29. I can HOST IT temporarily
Edited on Tue Jan-06-04 12:03 AM by Hardhead
I don't have a shitload of bandwidth per month, but this sounds so cool, DWW. I can host it for a week or two or until I run out of 1.5 gigs of bandwidth, whichever comes first.

Damn, I'd love to get my hands on a paper copy of it. I'm not in the Dean camp - but I'd love for DUers to all be able to see your work, if only for a short while. I'll pm you with an email addy.

:toast: way to go!
