7. what are they saying? this story could be a paradigm shift:
if they keep covering it, and it becomes a part of the campaign lexicon, as did "Gore invented the internet" and "Kerry LIED about his service to his country",
then this sort of thing will SINK McCain's campaign

if Obama can keep issues like this, which, of course, have little to do with the issues that really affect Americans, McCain could lose. if the media lets these sorts of stories die, as they always did with Bush, Obama will lose

time will tell, and I've always been a pessimist on this. I surely hope I'm wrong, but we'll have to wait and see

28. you are right, this could be the shift for a couple of reasons:
McCain doesn't let the press ride on the Straight Talk Express anymore. His handlers have cut off all contact because he keeps making mistakes and they are afraid he'll show his temper, his age, or that he's lying about so many things (how does he feel about religious crazies now? Agents of intolerance? How about birth control? Or how many houses he owns?)

So the press might be thinking: McCain might be bad for the country but he's a POW so there are so many things we can't say about him (can't mention his judgment, his integrity, his history, blah blah because...he was a POW) but maybe we can mention that he's in a bubble created by all his wealth.

Maybe.

And as much as I loathe and distrust the press, its possible they too might be freaking at how awful McCain is. You gotta hope at some point they will say "we've got some responsibility here to even the playing field with these rich, mean, war mongering bastards.

Maybe.

4. He knows
but didn't have an appropriate political answer to the question. So he passed it to his staff, assuming they would come up with a better answer than he could (not too hard with McCain). Obviously there is NO good answer to the question.

27. There is no good save for that one
Surely his campaign had to know it would come up eventually, but they didn't have a prepared statement. Did they think his immense wealth was a secret?

5. Halle-freakin'-lujah!
:bounce:

I remember Poppy Bush got knocked pretty badly when he had no clue as to how much a gallon of milk cost. (That was also when he was just knocked off his ass at computerized grocery scanners, which had been widespread and common for years).

8. sort of what I said above.....but, this is a good gauge of just HOW
in the tank the M$M is for McCain

if stories like this keep circulating, he'll LOSE

if M$M drops them, as they did ALL damaging Bush stories, the pugs will "win" again

13. Reported on Politico
"The presumptive Republican nominee, though, may have some wiggle room in explaining why he couldn't immediately provide an answer when asked by Politico how many houses he and his wife, Cindy, own. Sen. McCain himself does not own any of the properties. They're all owned by Cindy McCain, her dependent children and the trusts and companies they control."

Don't know if this is pertinent or not.

18. I don't think the excuse "Oh, they're my wife's houses" will fly.
I mean, they're freakin' married, right? Most couples discuss and cooperate on matters of, oh, I don't know, owning property. Can't the idiot COUNT, for gawdsakes?

20. The problem is, a lot of Americans want to be in the rich man's club...
That's why it's great that Obama is tying this with McCain's comments about the economy.

26. Yeah, but that shit goes right out the window in a bad economy.
When people are comfortable and well-fed enough, they can imagine being upwardly mobile. When they're struggling and worried about keeping their jobs and a roof over their heads the last thing they want to be reminded of is how the rich fuckers are living.
