Obama team to hold 'major' event Saturday in Bayh's Indiana

NashvillePost.com has learned that senior campaign officials from the Barack Obama Presidential campaign are being dispatched from various locations around the country and are converging in Indianapolis for a “major event” to take place on Saturday.

Saturday is the same day that Obama is expected to make his first public appearance with his yet to be announced vice presidential running mate. Indiana is the home state of Democratic Senator Evan Bayh, widely considered to be on the short list of Democratic vice presidential contenders

1. Indiana is a swing state within driving distance of Springfield.
So I'm not sure if there is anything there.

8. because an Obama/Bayh ticket will lose this November
IMHO

I don't see any appeal he could have outside of Indiana. I don't see how he helps at all with the demographic groups that Obama is doing poorly with. I don't see how he unifies the party.

14. Jesus Christ! Bayh is another John Edwards all over again.
This is the Dan Quayle Syndrome for picking VP's. Pick a pretty white guy and then lose.

Bayh does nothing to help Obama.

5. Agreed ... he's like watching paint dry, the ultimate "beige" candidate

I'll take Biden or Kaine but please God don't let it be
Bayh. We need a VP candidate who can HIT BACK at the
Rethugs and I don't think Bayh is that person.

7. I agree...
Springfield is a city of 111,000...since the event was planned so quickly...probably Indianapolis was the best bet to get everyone into the area on time. At least I keep telling myself that; do not want a DCL'er as VP. But at this point...just want to get on with this!!!!!!!!!

10. St. Louis is closer to Springfield than Indianapolis.

In fact, Chicago is about the same distance.

That said, I don't think this report is accurate. An Obama aide denied it to Politico.

Edit: fixed typo

6. If they really are having an event in Indiana on Saturday, then I think it is Bayh.
Obama won't go to Indiana on VP rollout day if he picks someone else. The headlines there on Saturday will be: "Hometown boy gets passed over." That wouldn't be a good setting for Obama and Not-Bayh to spend their first day as a team.

That said, I don't think this report is true. An Obama spokesperson has denied it.
