NRA to spend $40 million on anti-Obama ads...
The NRA plans to spend $40 million nationally this campaign season, and has yet to determine how much will be spent in individual states.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080814/ap_on_el_pr/obama_guns

It's at the very bottom of an article about how NRA is going to say that Obama is a threat to gun owners.

1. No worries, Biden as VP will solve that problem.
:eyes:

This is yet another reason that Schweitzer would be a great VP pick.

9. True, to a point.
People also consider the entire ticket, and Schweitzer would round out the ticket better than Biden, IMO.

2. Where do they get the money for this stuff ??
They boast 3 million members, most of whom don't seem to be able to afford this kind of committment.

I have to wonder who's "really" stoking this fire......

3. Corporate donors, IMO...
I imagine a lot of gun companies and more are financing the NRA as well.

10. 4 million, who tend to care about the issue a LOT,
and gun owners tend to have higher incomes than the population at large (because it takes disposable income to have a gun collection).

The repubs at the Brady Campaign have also spent the last 14 years fundraising for the NRA, by constantly threatening to ban the most popular guns in the USA, which the NRA then turns and relays to its membership as if the Bradyites might actually succeed, and the more-bans crusade by the DLC has also helped them quite a bit.

I think Schweitzer would be an excellent VP pick, FWIW, to help defuse this issue.

4. it doesn't say anything about anti-Obama ads
Frankly, all I get out of your link is that the NRA is going to spend $40 million for the entire election in 2008, not just the Presidential election, and the article doesn't even say if the NRA is pro-McCain or pro-Obama.

Frankly in their policy positions, Obama and McCain are nearly identical.

5. I hope all of that money goes down the drain
in a vain effort to get McCain elected

6. The question is where are they going to spend the money.
Kerry's percieved stance on stronger control hurt him in some swing states (Fl and OH). I don't want to see the same thing happen to Obama.
