What the hell has happened to MTP?
David Gregory, who is becoming more unlikeable & unfair by the day, had a roundtable on this Sundays "Meet The Right Wing Press"....They run clips of McCain attack ads, then the panel talks about them - and they don't run any Obama ads...More free air time for McBush, none for Obama...

They then talk about the Edwards affair, yet absolutely ZERO mention of McCain cheating on his first wife & subsequently marrying Cindy WHILE still married to first wife (as the LA Times mentioned in recent story)...Another free pass for the ill-tempered senator from Arizona...

It really is amazing Obama is up in the polls, as he receives no where near the favorable press as McCain does....If McCain wasn't getting such a free ride from the press, Obama would be up 20% or more in national polls.....

Maybe I'll start watching the "E" Channel for news, they can't be any worse than the MSM....

:banghead:

4. Gregory saw how well Russert did financially by deserting his
Democratic roots. Adapting to the General Electric bias is no problem for a hot house flower like Gregory. He is making a strong play to be Tim's successor by kissing Jack Welch's ass. I doubt he will be as successful as Tim in maintaining an air of objectivity while torpedoing Liberal candidates. David, of the lean hungry look, has demonstrated on his MSNBC show how he is anxious to carry water for the Grand Old Party and their less than grand old man.

Edited on Sun Aug-10-08 11:36 AM by Gabi Hayes
it carries the most weight (especially when Russert was still mouthbreathing) of any of them, and is the opinion leader, very much driving the political dialogue for all the kook kids inside the beltway. it's one of the KEY sources of the phony narrative that gets assigned to all political players. once that narrative gets written, it's almost impossible to change, and it's why McCain has it made with the press, even moreso than the fact that corporate media is always in the tank for the repub candidate

42. The Sunday morning shows
on the networks have been a semi-scripted for many years. Guests have the questions in advance. Powerful guests who control access have veto power over lines of questioning. The "journalists" who take part know they are lying to people. I go for bike rides or work in the shop during these shows. They are exactly the thing you say - a part of the right wing narrative that tell the country what to think. It works. Way too many people who should know better, even here on DU, have taken their political positions based on things scripted for this show.

With so little going for McCain, so many people to be exposed, and so many meal tickets to be cut off if Obama wins, the powerful know they have to fight Obama as if there's no tomorrow. Legitimacy of the press doesn't count for a hill of beans in this.

Open that hour up to the affiliates so that they can make more money. That would be a better use of the hour than MTP.

Personally, I am getting sick to death of them trotting out Erin Burnett at every opportunity, and touting her as an "expert." I see enough of her smugness and self-assuredness on CNBC. Enough.

22. just let 'em know
they're out of date, that you are in their target demo of 18-45 years old, and that you are now getting all your info from the internet.

This is their worst fear. They can't get any traction over owning their sad ass material on the net, though they are trying to screw the writers and actors and hosts out of making any money on net stuff because they know it is all going there. What they don't get is that their brand may not translate. not everyone needs a talking head "moran" to light the way. we have a lot of money in the demo party, and we can take our eyeballs to the web only. we get our news from impartial sources. they are shit out of luck on this one.

their worst fear is to be out of date, out of touch. so make sure you drill that home with them. they are so yesterday with this stuff- who watches it? they have some eyeballs still, but in two years they won't. let them know you're from all over, the heartland, etc, and you think they are so '90's. They try so hard to be hip, that's what all the graphics are about...that's how out of touch they are. they're trying for the mtv crowd, the vh1 crowd....isn't that the youth vote? methinks Obama has that one kinda wrapped up.

good luck losers. cokie, all the plastic surgery in the world can't help you now. You're done.

In each case, they were allowed to make their arguments and get their points across.

Kerry did not do such a great job - but maybe that's just me not liking the guy.

there are many places one can get that info after it's been copied and then they don't get the "eyeball count" to use to sell their advertisers. Just sayin'.

that is the point

but he is the only one who is transparent about having a POV, whereas others are supposed to be neutral and objective, but clearly are getting tps from the WH or corporate, and yet call themselves "news".

And KO covers things, as in REAL NEWS, that the talking heads don't anymore.

sadly, most people in my generation are now getting their "news" from the daily report.

would that we could find a hard hitting journalist with integrity, like rachel maddows, whom we could turn to nightly for real news.

49. This is alerable and extremely dishonest
Kerry wind surfed for about 2 hours or so in 2004. In any other race it would have been a photo op. It was the Rep Convention when the Dem campaign ends. It was a gorgeous Nantucket day and the media, Kerry staffers, and Teresa in the boat were all enjoying a pleasant outing.

In case you didn't know, another campaign had robo calls in the Iowa primary telling people Kerry was dying of cancer. This most likely had a role in his health NOT being an issue at all in 2004. It was clear he was both fit and healthy - and it was good, clean fun.

As to the taser - Kerry never mocked it. He didn't know about it until after the event and his statement was definately not mocking.

48. Your bias against Kerry is showing
I have yet to here a better description of the Anbar Awakening and its time line. This is important as it is the number one example McCain uses for the surge working. The broadcast media as a whole has yet to really cover what happened there. Kerry's concise outline explained what it was, why it happened, when it happened and who was involved. This is the best counter I've heard on this.

He also made the very stark accusation that McCain was running a negative campaign with dishonest smear ads.

Kerry is Obama best surrogate.

I know you preferred HRC, but she hasn't been half as good - even when she is there.

35. The transcript has them sitting around dissing Bush
MR. GREGORY: And a resurgent Russia is something that is very much a part of the landscape for the next president. This relationship with George Bush and Vladimir Putin went south in the course of his administration.

MR. GIGOT: Yeah, Bush really misjudged Putin in so many ways, there's no question about it. He's tried to do retrieve it, even I think it was last year, bringing him up to Kennebunkport to, to have a one-on-one. It hasn't worked. This is a resurgent Russia, and I think that whether Obama or McCain is president, they're going to have to deal with it.
