Then you can do what you want.

Since it seems there is a large population of Dems who don't care anyway...what the hell go for it.

1. Yeah, that was kinda fucked up of Edwards to do so.
Knowing our history when it comes to cheating (look at Clinton who got impeached for cheating despite the fact that it's NOT a crime that would be impeachable according to the Constitution), he shouldn't even have considered this. Maybe he thought that 2 years (as the affair was in 2006) would be enough time to erase the mistake but it's only now coming out.

Imagine if it had been an October surprise? I'm glad that the primary voters were smart enough to not vote for him but seriously, he was in the top 3-- the only reason he was pushed out so early was just because Hillary and Obama were too good at sucking the air out of a room. If it weren't for their quality, we really could have been stuck with him and this crap. After all, McCain hung on in a battle of attrition until the Republicans are now stuck with not the top of the scum but the scum that stubbornly clings to the bottom after every thing's been wiped away.

3. Look at Gov. Patterson. He fessed up and now he gets no grief.
Then look at Kwame Kilpatrick. Covered up and made a mess of everything.

2. full disclosure of things which could potentially..
destroy our chances of winning the White House. We ask our candidates to disclose their past drug use, criminal records, personal and business associates etc.

I like the way Governor Paterson handled it. No one can honestly argue that this current uproar is about sexual jealousy or puritanism, seeing as how there was a complete lack of outrage when Paterson went public with his past dalliances.

How about expending your energy on posting an OP on "If you planned on invading Iraq under false pretenses so you could get their oil, at least tell us first. Then you can do what you want."

6. I'm upset they still haven't fessed up on peak oil.
But I've come to realize that I can't expect truth from these guys.

11. as someone said to Joe Biden over 20 years ago..
when you run for president you get "The white hot spotlight of the press turned on you full blast." And if you don't want that or you have anything to hide, don't run.

7. Yes, Kucinich IS a dear. At least he's doing some good with his impeachment proceedings.
Edited on Sun Aug-10-08 02:46 AM by eshfemme
He's been keeping at it with his attempts to bring to account the actual criminals and traitors. Although those impeachments might never come to pass, it doesn't mean that there's no value in having this dialogue as that was the problem, there was no fucking discussion at all when Bushco were committing their crimes.

I'm not pissed off angry but I am annoyed because knowing such a thing that would definitely be an October surprise, Edwards should have been smart enough to know that his presidential campaign was doomed. But he was just too blinded by his ambition. At least Kerry, I know is like Obama in that he genuinely wanted to lead this country out of the quagmire (hence why he gave Obama a key speaking spot at the '04 convention) but now this whole thing just makes Edwards look like an idiot and by extension, us.

12. "Want?" "Cheat?" "Wife?" You display an...
abysmal lack of understanding of man's psyche with your trivialization.

13. Edwards should have either fessed up or not run.
This is a mess, and it's far from over.

I do not believe Edwards when he says it was over in 2006. That sounds like a lie to told his wife, and has stuck with. The massive amounts of money that originated with the Edwards campaign and found their way quickly into supporting the ex girlfriend seem to relate to her pregnancy, not the timeline Edwards has claimed.

We know he's been lying for the past two years. I don't know why anyone would confidently say "oh, but now we KNOW he's telling the truth."

14. what surprises me is how low Elizabeth Edwards's standards became ...
... that she would go along with his lies. The entire situation is pathetic.

15. I cut her slack as the wronged party, dealing with her own problems
And we do not know what or when he told her, but it's more likely than not that John was not entirely truthful even then. I believe the girlfriend thing went on well into 2007, and I believe John lied to Elizabeth when he fessed up, by saying it ended in 2006. Maybe he had a good reason, but even so, it would explain better her going along with him in 2007.

She was beaten down by this, no doubt, so she was struggling for her survival. I cannot fault her for that.
