Will the MSM dare to speak the truth out loud? "McCain Meltdown"
Edited on Wed Aug-06-08 04:31 PM by Zenlitened
That's a powerful media meme. I mean, it's alliterative and everything! And it would probably be spreading like wildfire... if McCain was a Democrat.

His campaign is flailing, to the point where even his own supporters are shaking their heads in disgust and disbelief at his antics:

Yes, a few pseudopundits on th' tee-vee recently have been forced to admit that Senator Same-Old is losing a bit of his touch these days.

But we haven't yet seen that sentiment crustilize (sic) into a genuine media-driven meme. Will it ever?

You'll know it's beginning to catch on when it shows up as an on-screen banner -- probably with a question mark after it: "McCain Meltdown?"

If a news anchor or analyst comments about "a meltdown moment on the campaign trail"... that could be a sign it's gaining more traction. Plus, "meltdown moment" is irresistibly alliterative, too. Wheee!

And if we hear it so often that Jon Stewart can air a video montage of the various talking heads all uttering the phrase... then we'll know for certain that it has become a full-bore, everybody-says-it, so-it-must-be-true, 24/7 media Thought Infection.

Sadly, though, we may never reach that happy moment. Because John McCain lacks the one failing that makes a person so much fun for the media to skewer: He's not a thoughtful, intelligent liberal running for president. Thus, he's not fair game for ridiculing by the political pundit-caste.

Oh well. There's still time, I suppose. If he weakens himself enough with his ridiculous antics, the brave boys and girls of the Beltway beat may eventually feel it's safe to give him a little bit of "the treatment" they showered on Gore and then Kerry.

If only some press-conference-transcriber out there would mis-read his notes, and "report" that McCain claimed he invented the telegraph...
