Pelosi now pushing for Rep Chet Edwards for Veep

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is behind a dark horse in the Democratic veepstakes: Rep. Chet Edwards of Texas.

"I hope he will be the nominee," Pelosi said Sunday on ABC's "This Week."

Edwards, first elected in 1990 and now in his ninth term, represents Texas' 17th District, which includes Waco, College Station, Fort Hood and the small town of Crawford, where President Bush has a ranch. He serves as a senior member on the House appropriations and budget committees and has guided funding measures for military veterans.

Pelosi said that amid all the talk about possible running mates from the Senate, she didn't want the House to be left out. Presumed nominee Barack Obama has not announced when he will make his pick.

22. "Voted YES on Constitutional Amendment banning same-sex marriage."
That's another one that I find troubling. Of course I wish Obama were in favor of gay marriage, but at least he's spoken out in favor of civil unions. This Edwards guy sounds a bit homophobic.

29. Sometimes i think those insiders that take that so called "safe vote"....
are actually worse than the Ultra-right who merely think it's governments job to enforce their version of morality. At least with the latter you know what you are dealing with, sort of

21. One has nothing to do w/ the other.
Pelosi has been totally discredited in the Party. Her opinions don't count for much other than window dressing meant to look like unity.

If and when Obama takes office, she's a goner.

But I'd be surprised if he picked him.

No Pres has won with a Vp from the House since Nance Garner ran with Roosevelt in 1932. Although Garner was Speaker, not just a congressman, and delivered the CA and TX delegates Roosevelt needed to win the nomination.

11. Very difficult for an unknown congressman to make it but he sounds good

Of course if the Republicans do not take Texas there is no reasonable scenario where they could win.

She seems to be spending an awful lot of time kissing their asses and doing their bidding, so I had to ask.

He's as much of a Democrat as can be elected in his district, but he's not going to help Obama get one single vote in the fall.
