Former Wingnut Reveals: How to Win the "Race Card" Debate
Edited on Sun Aug-03-08 12:23 PM by FLDem5
I LOVE! this diary.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/3/125840/1473/655/561764

Listen: I'm not proud of it, but I've worked on several Gooper campaigns in the past. I know their tricks. And ya'll aren't playing the game right.

When they pull this "race card" nonsense, don't say: "They are painting Barack as Other!" Takes too long to explain. Instead, say: "They are Other!"

They are: shrill, hysterical, politically correct, hypersensitive, ungrateful, have a victim mentality, a sense of entitlement, don't like freedom of speech, aren't living in the real world, are having hot flashes.

We, by contrast: are just calling it like we see it, just living in the real world, are puzzled, can't understand what the big fuss is about, think everyone just needs to calm down, wish they would stop twisting our words around to mean things they don't.

In other words, use all the standard dishonest BS lines the Repugs use when they're called out on race-baiting. Works for them, why not us? It's ugly, but powerful stuff. I've seen this work first hand.

Also, never ever say race, racist, racial or any other cognate thereof. Not even to say "John McCain isn't racist." All people hear is "John McCain...racist."

Please rec to help win this battle, and if you know anyone at the Obama camp, please forward it along.

Hopefully my training in neocon dirty tricks will come in handy for us.

Examples:

Did you hear about that Obama called John McCain a racist?

Oh my goodness, John McCain is so sensitive. Senator Obama was just pointing out the obvious, he's different, what's their problem with that? Why are they so hysterical all the time?

1. Good thoughts
Sometimes we need to fight soundbites with soundbites. Less-educated people will hold onto a soundbite longer than they will an idea.

 :hi:

2. and I like the simple formula - they are.... we are...
easy to pull out in a situation where you are taken by surprise by a comment from someone.

"They are so PC, we live in the real world."

3. That's right. It's a mistake not to USE the weakness of the MSM and it's viewers.

6. I like the idea of using the Right's own bullying tactics against them.
Like I've said here before, the whole overblown hysteria about "political correctness" is a classic example of projection. In reality, it's the Republicans who are way too easily offended, can't handle being challenged, etc. They call liberals wimps (or a less polite equivalent) to cover up their own weakness.
