Lowell George came into a club where a band I was sound engineer/fill in guitarist for was playing in Eureka Ca. in about '74 (?). We BEGGED him to get up and play Dixie Chicken, (The band and I knew the song).

By the time he got up there he was soooo drunk he couldn't play the damned thing......

We had a great time fooling around with Paul Barre while Lowell slept it off.

Eureka was a riot in those days, Lydia Pence (Cold Blood) lived there, and on any given night you could see music in no fewer than 5 different bars within 4 blocks - and 5 more if you went to Arcata. 7 piece funk bands, rock and roll power trios, original Kenny Loggins clones, I was there doing my best Leo Kottke impersonation..(very poorly).

It was a GREAT town for music - a lot of great players from San Francisco came up to get high and play with the locals, The touring bands that played there ranged from Robert Cray, to the Art Ensemble of Chicago.

Great times.
