I have never been the target of racial discrimination, but I favor affirmative action.

I'm not physically disabled, but I favor fair housing rights for the disabled.

I would think of it as a sad thing instead of a cause for celebration if a friend of mine had to get an abortion, but I'm still 100% pro-choice.

The path my personal life has taken does not cause me to be anti-choice, anti-affirmative action, or anti-gay just because my personal lifestyle does not encompass those personal experiences.

Tim Kaine is an excellent VP candidate, and the fact that he supports reproductive rights despite his personal religious beliefs speaks volumes about his appreciation of the need for a constitutional separation of personal religious beliefs from the administration of a secular government.

4. I agree, and as Jim Webb said....
"The government stops at my front door". As it should be.

5. unfortunatey some of his religious beliefs are more equal than others
those about gays he seems to be more than willing to stick to and use the government of Virginia to enforce.

7. No-one celebrates abortion
Even if we are pro-choice, none of us think abortion is a wonderful thing. It would be better if it were not necessary but it is.

I know nothing about Tim Kaine, btw, although I like that Biden was also on teh short list.

8. Wanda Sykes said it best...
"If you don't believe in same-sex marriage, then don't marry someone of the same sex."

I don't understand why many conservative Democrats can't get this through their heads...I mean, I can understand why it's politically impossible for them to outright support same-sex marriage, but it takes a lot of audacity and pigheadedness to blatantly OPPOSE civil unions.

9. This only applies to his personal opposition to abortion, but not to stem cells...
or his opposition to marriage equality, which are both just idiotic and bigoted.

10. There's also the factor of (D) in (R) state
You have to somewhat represent your people. At some point you have to get elected or good intentions are worth less than nothing.

People that can help us pick up states inevitably pick up baggage running in these conservative areas.

I'm not saying this is an excuse in this or any specific scenario but I think it gets forgotten that you can't run the same way in Georgia as you can in New York. It's goofy to punish red state/conservative district Democrats for getting us seats and voting with us.

11. that might be true of marriage equality
but not stem cells. Stem cell research polls better than abortion.
