I'm tired of Pat Buchanon saying Obama cannot close the deal.
Obama has done plenty to put his name and agenda out there -- and he's going to do even more.

If he's not further ahead, its because people can't get past his background. Pure and simple. They see a black guy and the walls go up.

2. Did Bush or Clinton regularly poll above 50%? I doubt it.
This is a manufactured bar - created by the media.

3. But Give Pat Credit
He basically said that the new USA Today/Gallup poll was a bunch of bull.

4. Who closes the deal in July?
If someone has an example, I'm all ears.

5. Phat Pukecannon is just that.
I had to turn off Moron Joe this AM, the two of them made me choke on a little bile.

6. Crazy Pat is a wind bag but he sometimes comes to Obama's rescue
even if they disagree on 99% of the issues. Pat is like a tired parrot repeating "canot close the deal" in every show.

8. Yeah, Pat does make sense from time to time.
He tells it like it is, I'm just sick of this particular refrain.

9. Is Pat suggesting Obama should take over the Presidency from Bush today?
If so, I'm all in favor of that!

11. The campaign has thus far failed to define McCain
Edited on Mon Jul-28-08 04:34 PM by depakid
even though they've been handed TONS of ammunition over the past several weeks to sink him with.

That's the reason why he hasn't (and from all indications may not) be able to close the deal. Make this a referendum about McCain's fitness for office, and game over.

12. Pat is practically crawling out of his skin
with the desire to snap and call Obama a "dirty n---er" on television.

Every time I see him, I start talking to him. "C'mon, Pat, just say it. You know you want to. You'll feel so much better after it's over--it's like ripping off a band-aid. If you do it quick there's less pain. Hell, Fox News will still make you a contributor after MSNBC fires your ass."

13. (shrug) Many of us were tired of it months ago when Clinton supporters were doing it....
Telling us gleefully how Obama couldn't close the deal with white folks.

We got over it, and won. Fuck all those who say that.

16. He said that on Morning Joe too. I was thinking, fine, he can just
take a 5 point lead right up until election day, he'll be the winner, but the deal still won't be "closed" in Pat's book

18. No kidding, just let everything stay where it is
I'll gladly hold the vote tomorrow.

I honestly don't know what these pundits expect in terms of margin. In '06 that was a more favorable cycle than this one, a second-term midterm with Bush still the focus and Katrina a more recent memory plus the Mark Foley scandal. Yet the national House vote was something like 53-46, a 7 point gap.

It's loony to expect double digit gap or anything similar, particularly in an open race with neither candidate adored or despised based on performance in office.

17. He Famously Told the Clintons to Racebait
HE didn't actually say racebait, but after the NH primary he said they had to paint Obama as the black candidate. They took his advice and the shuck and jive, drug dealing, everybody's hip black friend, Jesse Jackson won S.Carolina all turned up. It probably cost Hillary the nomination. Not that I mind, HRC was the only Dem nominee the GOP stood a good chance of beating.
