Is North Carolina's second US Senate Seat Cursed?
Since the legendary Sam Ervin retired in 1974, no occupant has been elected to a second term

1. Maybe that's why Edwards didn't run for reelection
It's the Curse of Sam Ervin!

2. maybe it had to do with Jesse Helms
they already had one long time serving guy with seniority who could bring home the pork. so they looked to the other senate seat to try different people.

maybe things will start to change with helms being gone now.

3. Doncha think, doncha hope
that Erskine Bowles has a chance? With a big voter turnout going for Kerry, maybe things will turn around. At least, that is my fervent hope.

4. Well, Bowles is ahead in the polls, so GOP hopes things will turn around

5. Bowles
is running a MUCH better campaign this time. He seems like he actually wants to win.

Maybe I missed it 'cause I'm in the mountains, but does it seem to anyone that Bowles last time, and Faircloth in '98, just didn't bother to campaign?

6. He would have won the last time if he weren't running against Dole
