McCain political ads are making him LOSE poll numbers in key states
Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 10:56 AM by zulchzulu
Being in Wisconsin, I've seen the McCain ads in question in the recent $16 million ad buy. Besides the substance, which is full of lies and half-truths, the ads themselves look dated and perhaps done on a 1997 Windows 95 computer by Uncle Wally's Basement Productions.

So what about these ads and what they have done for the campaign? They've made him lose a lot in polls in the states he has targeted! Here is a statement regarding when the McCain campaign started their ad buy:

June 6 - John McCain (R) has just announced a significant ad campaign to begin in Iowa, Michigan, Colorado, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri, New Mexico, Nevada, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. Notice that 7 of the 11 states are also red states that Bush won in 2004.

EVERY state (except Nevada) that McCain bought ads and had them shown, his polls numbers have dropped, in some cases by 10 points.

Obama has continued to gain more in polls with an ad buy at about a third of McCain's.

Unlike McCain, who spent more than he raised in June, Obama accumulated cash during the month. While he ruled on the airwaves with ads during the primary season, he refused to match McCain's ad spending in June. McCain devoted $16 million to advertising to Obama's $5 million.

3. Blame Obama For High Gas Prices Ad
has been panned badly - it's absurd, beyond absurd. He deserves to lose points on that one especially.

5. The AMC show, "Mad Men" had Nixon & Kennedy ads from 1960
McCain's ads remind me of those of old--from Nixon.....

8. LOVE that show and can't wait until Sunday!
There's a great scene, as you mentioned, in last season where they're watching a Kennedy ad and remarking about how upbeat and positive and sing-songy it is, in contrast to Nixon's dull ads. :-)

10. It is a wonderfully done period piece.... I have vague recollections
of the early sixties, as I'm a tale-end baby boomer, but wow, the clothes, the constant smoking and drinking are still sort of shock to the senses! My Mom had clothes like the ones worn though and the old pics really bring it home.

It's a great show...
